Using the diagram from user "Petrica Voicu" I shorted the 2 power pins (6<->9) so it's always live and shorted the two pairs of volume pots (1<->8 & 2<->4) simulating max volume so now it works as just an ordinary subwoofer. The big dial on the front controls the sub volume. Bought for $5 at Goodwill -- not super loud but perfect for my needs. Thanks.

SOURCE: ihave hk395 subwoofer..but i dont have the satellite and a two speakers..it is possible to use it...if not were i can buy..

U can use the sub-woofer by plugging it separately with a normal 2 stereo speakers.. or ..use 2 speakers attached on it ..be sure they are powerfull enough to make a match ..(usually it is enough 10 watt )
to plug t separately ..just take a look in the speaker configuration option of the driver..and change it in such a way that will allow you multiple out ..(you will see which one will be what ...even on a normal sound card with only 3 plugs ..The configuration you have to choose is probably 3=1 or so ...and will leave your pink for a microphone ..and the line in will turn in a out-let for the woofer ..
Or if the woofer have inlets for the speakers and has a amplifier built in ..you can attach any speakers..
In this case you can use teh normal speaker out ..and get the signal for the other speakers from the woofer ..
In case they were separate ..and the woofer was only connected with the central ..use like I say ..a configuration on the sound manager (speaker configuration ) in such a way that you will be able to connect the speakers in normal green out and use regular 2 stereo ones..and attach the sub-woofer in the plug specified in the diagram ..usually for 3=1 or 4=1 it will change the blue line in into woofer out ..and will work
In this case the speakers used in the green out have to be amplified separately (or have a built in amplifier like computer speakers have ).please ask if you didn't understood the procedure ..and please rate my answer

The left speaker sometimes stops working. If I giggle the off/on switch on the right speaker it comes back on. What can I do to fix the problem?

you could try cleaning the switch.
could be just bad connections.
or just replace the switch.
or a loose connection.
it could be none of the above but worth checking.

What cable connects a Dell PC to a Harmon Kardon HK395 sub woofer?

3.5 m/m. Normally it is color coded green. The pink connects the subwoofer to the speakers. Any color will work. Just mark both ends of wire jacks.

Won't power up

  • Make sure all connections on the rear of Subwoofer are properly inserted in their connectors.
  • Check to see if LED illuminates on the front of right satellite speaker. If it is not illuminated, check the power connections.
  • Make sure power switch on satellite is turned on.
