Obviously, if it's still under warranty, you know what to do! I'm not familiar with this particular model but, unless you and I are missing something to do with the controls, then it sounds like a software 'crash'. These players are basically empty chips which need to be filled with a program to make them work - just like a computer. You should have had a Firmware Disc supplied with your player. If you don't, then go onto the manufacturer's website and down-load it from there. Follow the instructions for 'Firmware re-load' carefully. This will wipe the existing (faulty?) program and your music files, and basically reload a fresh copy of the Firmware onto your player to get you back to the position you were in when you first got it! My understanding, as a new user, is that IRiver plus 3 only communicates with the player via UMS mode, which is not the default. Windows Explorer and Windows Media Player only communicate through MTP mode. If you change from MTP (the default) to UMS, it will reformat the player and delete all your files.
In other words, do not use iriver plus 3 unless that is the only software that you want to use. Boing back to MTP mode after a sync or download will then delete all THOSE files you just downloaded.
I just say NO to Plus 3.

there is a setting somewhere that stops it charging when you connect it to a usb port on the computer.
