A camera store or electronics store will likely have the correct cable. It's most likely a "mini usb" connector. If there's a Best Buy near you, they should have it.

Try using a different USB port. If it still not working, it is probably a non-compatibility issue with OSX.

THis is a common cable usually found at Walmart or Staples. Just take your camera in with you and one of the techs in the electronics dept. will match it up for you. OR you could go to vivitar.com/customer support and order one

Best Buy or Wal-Mart or Target. You need a USB type A to mini USB cable, unless your camera takes a special plug. They should only be about $10 or so. Try eBay if no one has this cable, but Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, all carry them.

Check out the USB to 5 pin mini plug cable that you can buy at Staples. I use the same USB cable to connect a Canon 4 MP camera as well as my JVC GZ-HD3U to a PC. If the camera developers were sensible enough, after you plug it in, you should be able to see it as if it were an attached USB disk drive.

Go to Staples or Tiger Direct or Canadian Tire, or some dollar stores cary it too, Radio Shack , the Source etc.
Ask for reg -USB to mini USB, bring camera there so you can test it. You can get a 5 volt charger as well for about 12.00.

With that amount of non-accidental damage, a replacement is the best option financially

I think you CAN--there's a lovely site with specific instructions,,,, Do It Yourself Camera Repair --- for fabulous step by step instructions WITH pictures & simple explanations that a novice can follow!!!

In short, all you need to do is find another USB port (even from a broken camera or other device) to replace yours. It seems that you'll need to solder it in -? - that's the step I'm trying to research right now--I'd like to just glue mine back in because I don't know how to solder--- but the tricky part is getting the camera apart, not touching the flash capacitator nor any of it's power-holding chips, and not damaging any of the other components.

Don't ever buy another USB cable for any camera MariamAli. Buy San Disks mini card reader MobileMate SD+, plug your mem card, SD,SDHC, or MicroSD, into it, then plug MobileMate directly into your USB port.

Saves lugging around a bulky, and unique, USB Cable and saves on your camera battery power, that otherwise is needed to power USB Cable download from camera.

Available at RadioShack, Staples, and most anywhere SD Mem Cards are sold. $15 it think.
