The fridge in your 2012 Sterling 32RL is most likely a 2-way refrigerator. This means it can operate on two power sources: 120-volt AC power (shore power or generator) and propane gas.
Typically, 2-way refrigerators do not operate on 12-volt DC power directly. However, some RVs may have an option to run the refrigerator on 12-volt DC power while driving, using the vehicle's battery system. This is usually done through an inverter or a converter that converts the 12-volt DC power to 120-volt AC power to run the refrigerator.
To determine the specific capabilities of your fridge, it is recommended to consult the owner's manual or contact the manufacturer of your RV or the refrigerator itself. They will be able to provide you with accurate information regarding the power options and operation of your specific refrigerator model.
Running on AC always cools down faster. If you plug it in to AC and the fridge cools quickly then the switch position is AC. Turn on a 12 volt light. Watch the lite while you operate the switch. When the light dims a little the switch position is in the DC mode.
Does not make any sense that it works on 12 volts, but not on 240 volts......why would you try it on only 12 volts? How do you hookup just 12 volts? with the use of a rheostat? Are you trying direct current or alternating current?
A fuse is rated for it's current carrying capacity so yes you can use a 240 volt 5 Amp fuse in a 12 Volt circuit. The Voltage is given to indicate the insulation of the fuse, i.e. if you used a 12 volt fuse in a 240 Volt circuit it may arc and therefore is not suitable. You can always use a fuse with a higher voltage rating in a lower voltage rated circuit. A 5 Amp fuse will carry 5 Amps indefinately and will only blow at 2 or three times it's rated current.
AUTOMATIC AC/DC CHANGEOVER: All Engel Fridge Freezers can be plugged
into both AC and DC at the same time. The Engel is smart enough to use
the AC while available and then automatically switch to DC when the AC
is no longer working. It will also sense the resumption of AC power and
automatically switch back to AC making it ideal for high hurricane areas
and places where power disruption is common. Read more: http://www.roadtrucker.com/engel/engel-12-volt-fridge-freezer-technical.html#ixzz2MvRL2xrC
