However, it\'s not as robust as NTFS and doesn\'t support file system-level encryption and built-in compression. Mac computer\'s can\'t write files to an NTFS drive.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you\'re formatting a drive to give to someone else, or if you\'re disposing of a drive that has sensitive information on it, you should always deselect the Quick Format option so Windows can perform a full format. However, even a full format may not make the data completely unrecoverable. The only way to be 100 percent certain that data can\'t be recovered is to destroy the drive.

MICRO SD CARD WILL NOT FORMAT

If you cannot format an SD card on your PC or external device, retry choosing the exFAT format from the drop down menu (File system box) on windows, then format your SD card using this choice, then format again using fat32 format, this just worked for me and saved my SD card from the bin

1. Double-click My Computer, or Computer (for Vista and Win7)
2. Right-click the drive letter associated with your memory device, then select Format.
3.Select File system format drop down menu to be exfat.
4. Select quick format.
5. Select start.
6. When formatted, repeat steps 3 to 6, but this time select Fat32.

What is exFAT format?

exFat is short for Extended File Allocation Table. exFAT is a file system designed and used by flash drives.

exFAT is not used and was not designed for formatting hard drives. It is only recommended in flash memory storage and other external devices only.

Cange file system RAW in FAT

SD cards take on a multitude of formats.

For a card that needs to work on operating systems such as Windows 98, ME or XP Home Edition, it must be converted to a File Allocation Table (FAT) format.

Also, some devices, such as a GPS unit or MP3 player, may require a FAT-formatted card.

Insert the SD card into your computer's card reader.

Click Start, then "My Computer."

Right click on the drive representing your SD card and click "Format."

Choose the memory capacity that fits what the SD card's capacity is.

If the exact option isn't available, get as close as possible.

Choose "exFAT" from the "File system" option.

Click "OK" and confirm you want to format the drive.

Hope this helps.

Cannot format a 64g stick using xp

Your flashdrive/memory card must be formatted with the exFAT file system. To do this on xp follow these steps: WARNING: - Backup all your data before formatting. - Some cameras may NOT be compatible with the exFAT file system. - Devices formatted using exFAT can NOT be read by any version of Windows prior to Windows XP.
1. Download this Windows update to obtain the exFAT Driver Update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955704 2.Right click on the device in My Computer and press format. 3. Select the exFAT file system. 4. Press Start 5. When the message box comes up asking if you really want to format your device and lose everything on it, press ok.
And that should be it.
