GE Wizard Top-Load Washer - Burning Smell

I have a GE Wizard Top-Load Washer. About 15 seconds into the wash, it stops agitating and I smell burning. Same thing happens during the spin cycle - after 15 seconds of spinning, it stops spinning and I smell burning again. Is it the transmission, agitator, or something else? Thanks for the assistance!

Burning smell wont work

If it is a burning rubber smell, the drive belt from the motor to the transmission may have failed. Remove the rear panel to access (you may have to remove the top first-- push in on the two front corners with a thin putty knife and release two spring clips ). Make sure the transmission pulley turns freely before repair. Hope this helps!

Washer fills with water, loud thump sound, no agitation occurs.

The thump is probably the motor trying to start followed by the burning smell of the belt slipping. See if something is jammed, but the most likely thing there is a bad transmission.

Washer won't do anything but fill.

It is very likely that the motor has burned out. What happens is that the water solenoid allows water to fill to a certain point where a fill sensor stops it. The program then moves on to activate the motor which will agitate the wash. So when power is supplied to the motor, it tries to start, overheats because of a break down of insulation in the windings, and you smell burning. Replace the motor.

Slow agitating

Sounds like a failure in the gear case but the burning smell makes me wonder if you have a problem with the motor. You will need a appliance tech to verify

GE Model wwsr3090t6aa Agitator problem

You probably have burning belt LOL.

Can you turn the agitator by hand at all?
If no, look for anything that may have gotten wedged under the agitator causing it to lock up.

If you can turn it a little. you most likely have a worn stretched belt or tensioner spring.

The only solution for that is to replace the belt or tensioner spring.
