Is this a gas fireplace or electric? If you would post the make and model that would be a big help. IF it is gas then it has a flame sensor in it and those get dirty.

My fireplace insert flame won't stay on. the pilot light is working fine.

So the pilot stays on all the time, but the main burner flames keeps shutting off? Allot of fireplaces run on what is called millivolts. You could have a weak millivolt generator, weak pilot, not getting the generator hot enough or you could have some loose connections. I would consult a fireplace shop

Pilot light will not go on unless it is lit manually. At this point the fireplace will light up, for about 30 seconds and then all shuts down

There is a flame sensor for the pilot light that keeps the pilot light gas flowing from the main gas valve. If the sensor is too far away from the flame, it will stop the gas valve . The sensor itself can fail in time, so it may need to be replaced.

How do I clean the dust from an Amish fireplace

This shut down is a safety feature on the unit so it doesn't over heat.
You need to remove a cover that's in the back on the bottom and
take compressed air to blow out the dust. Concentrate on the
blower especially. Best done out doors.
This is also a good opportunity to see if the blower still turns
freely. If not it'll need lubed or replaced.

Our dimplex electric fireplace model number 28106D3F shut off and won't turn back on

Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF. Unplug the fireplace from the wall receptacle and leave unplugged for 10 - 15 minutes. This will give it time t reset itself. In the future, if you finding you're have to do this more often. Unplug the fireplace, stop using it and call Dimplex USA Technical Service 888-346-7539 for further instructions.

We have a Marco fireplace and the damper does not shut. I push the leaver inwards but nothing catches to keep it closed. We purchased this house and the fireplace was replaced with Gas Logs but still...

when the gas logs were installed the vent damper should have disabled. it sounds like this was done.it is unsafe to close the damper with gas piped into the fire place. sometimes a "u" block will be placed over the damper blade. if the gas has been removed and not piped into the firebox anymore it would be safe to remove this

I recently bought a house w/ a Marco gas fireplace and there is no owners manual. I have never used a gas fireplace, so I have no experience with this. I would really like to get an owners manual, but...

www.macro-fireplace.net is the manufacture's website where you can request a manual for free.
I haven't located any others but I will keep you posted if and when I find one.

Central haeting keeps turning on when itself

Change your air filter, if the system has to work too hard, it will over heat. If the filter is allowing air flow and the system still shuts off it is the thermostat. Keep in mind the Thermostat gauges the temperature where the thermostat is located, if its next to a running fireplace it will think your entire house is that temp.
