These Briggs has two diode in the coil ground leads.

Here is few things that can cause this problem.

  • Short to ground in the wiring
  • Both diodes are shorted.
  • 12v is somehow being applied to the coil circuit shorting the diodes and destroying the coil packs.
  • Bad ignition switch keeping the coil packs grounded.
Step 1:
Start testing by first disconnecting both coil packs ground wires. If the engine now starts and runs you at least the coil packs are okay. If doesn't then both coil packs are bad. In this case don't reconnect until you can verify that 12v isn't being applied momentarily when operating the ignition switch. Proceed to step if the engine now starts.

Step 2:
Then reconnect the ground wires and disconnect the engine that feeds the coil packs and the fuel shut shut off solenoid and retest.
If the engine starts and runs. Then reconnect the harness to shut the engine down. This would mean that there either a bad ignition switch or a short in the wiring on the mower side and not in the engine side.
If it doesn't start start now after starting previously replace the diodes in the wiring harness paying attention to proper orientation of the diodes or replace the harness.

Trying to find out the year of a John Deere Garden Tractor model is 110 ser # A29457

The first John Deere 110 lawn and garden tractor was built in the John Deere manufacturing facility in Horicon, Wisconsin, in 1963 and subsequently became an American classic. The tractor was originally designed as a garden tractor, although it is often called a lawn tractor; the company discontinued the model 110 in 1974.

John Deere L130 riding lawn tractor will not start what do I do?

I'm assuming the motor will crank over, but not start. Remove the air intake cover & filter off the carburetor air intake. Do you smell gas? Is gas dripping out of the carburetor? If not, spray a couple shots of starting fluid or carburetor cleaner into the carburetor air intake throat. Close the choke & crank the engine. If it starts, & stalls, repeat the process. If it won't stay running, your carburetor float jet is gummed up & needs to be cleaned. Check & clean the spark plug. Does the spark plug fire when the engine is cranked? If no, then you have an ignition problem.

I used my John Deere L110 Lawn Tractor all day yesterday. Turned the engine off, it popped. Then went to start it today and it just pops, seems like the timing is off.

throttle down your engine before turning it off . this reduces amount of fuel going into a hot engine ,just a few seconds before switching key off , should stop back firing issues.

John deere 425 lawn tractor. it wont start but it has spark and fuel the starter engages and the fly wheel turns

If your tractor has an anti back fire solenoid in the front of the carburetor then it should start if you remove it and cap it off with a pipe plug.It should run if the solenoid is the problem,if so you really should replace it but if it is'nt prone to backfiring with it remove you don't have to.You may also have a bad seat switch, confirm this by jumping the plug with a piece of wire to temporarily test it.

John deere 420 trouble starting getting gas and

The engine needs air, so be sure the air filter is clean. If it is not, replace it.

The engine needs spark. Replace the spark plug and be sure that the battery has a complete charge.

The engine needs good fuel so be sure the gas is newly purchased, not gas that has been sitting around for months.
