YOU WILL STILL NEED TO PROGRAM THE NEW REMOTE FROM THE MANUAL THAT CAME WITH THE REMOTE. NORMALLY THIER ARE TWO WAYS TO PROGRAM A REMOTE EITHER MANUALLY OR TO DO IT AUTOMATICALLY. YES THE ORIGIONAL REMOTE IS ALREADY SET UP FOR YOUR MODEL OF TV BUT WITH THAT SAID TRY TO PROGRAM IT BY BOTH PARTS OF THE MANUAL. i AM USING A 55 INCH SMART TV AND HAVE DONE THIS AND ON OTHER SMART TV'S. First, You cannot resync the remote, Second the IR sensor may be bad on the tv and third, the Digital bd may be bad. The IR sensor connects directly to the Digital bd which is the brains of the tv. Also, there maybe a stuck button on the remote or the buttons on the tv.

Yes, I can help you either fix the original or get you a brand new one. By the way, did you change the batteries. I know you did, but this procedure is the first step. If you change the batteries and the remote doesn't work, the problem can be inside the remote, specially if it happen to be dropped. Or the sensor in front the tv may be bad if does not respond to the remote. The best way to check the remote control is with infrared checker, an special equipment I have at the shop. I stumbled across this page while the owner's manual for my remote was lost. I've now found the manual (after not having any luck finding the solution on the web)!

The AKAI KC02-D2 remote operates my AKAI PDP42Z5TA 42" Plasma HD Television. It may work with others as well, but that's the TV I use it for. If the batteries are removed (or dead) for a while, it will lose its programming. Here's how to reprogram it.

AKAI = 231, 218, 221, 222, 225, 226, 227, 228

1. Turn on the Device you want to program. The remote can be programmed by pressing the 3 Digit Brand Code number listed in the code table of this programming guide. If multiple codes are listed, you may have to enter several codes to complete the steps below. (Note: For programming the VCR, a tape must be loaded/inserted first.) If your Brand is not listed, please use the Manual Search menthod or Auto Search method (Section C & D below).

2. Press and hold the SET button for about 3 seconds until the current Device LED lights (TV, VCR, DVD, STB.), then release the SET button.

3. Press the device button you want to program (TV, VCR, DVD, STB.) then the selected Device LED will light on.

4. Enter the 3 Digit Brand Code for the desired Device. For example, enter "2" "1" "8" for AKAI TV. When entering each digit, the Device LED will flash one time. After all 3 digit numbers are entered, the Device LED will turn off. If the code is not valid, the Device LED will flash three times then turn off. Check the code list and repeat from the above step 2.

(*The manual contains a huge list of 3-digit codes for various devices. If you're looking for a specific one, just ask.)

the system is not easy and I have had the same problem with my moms. The one thing I know is you have to be able to get it in the setup mode for anything to work correct. If you are using the rca jack outputs in the rear (e1 is the dvd vhs video and audio out and e2 is on the front of the box and that is for video and audio in) you have to hit source and put it to e1. When you hit source on the remote it will go from tv I believe it will say channel 3,hit it again it goes to e1 and then to e2. If you are using the cable in and out put the source to tv or ch3. to record from vhs to dvd you have to push the button on the front I believe its called dubbing. It is the only diffrent colored button. This automatically sets it up you should be able to watch the video being recorded while it is recording to the dvd. Make sure you have the correct type dvd I know the +R work. It is very important to get the setup done and that is the hardest part to get too. Also remember if you are using video out(rca jacks) you must switch your tv to video in and if you are using the old style cables you set your tv to ant1 or ant 2 depending what input you are using. The problem with this is having to know your tv and what source you have set on it, ant1 or ant2 or video 1,2,or 3. It all depends on how you take the video and audio out of the vcr/dvd player. Once again if you use rca jacks you must use the remote source button and put it to e1 and then put the other end of the jacks to video input of the tv and change the source on the tv to video also. If you use the old cable in and out you must change the source on the vcr/dvd remote to ch3 and set the tv to ant 1 or 2 depending on how may inputs you have. you must match the systems.
