No! They are no longer made due to the computer generation and slide presentations are usually made with laptops now. You should be able to find one good used one on eBay if interested find your model # of projector and look it up on ebay. They are usually in good condition but make sure lamp works on the one you are buying as these are expensive to replace. Rich
No. The slide tray should rotate when the forward or reverse buttons are pushed. Slides are not required for correct actuation of the tray. Before attempting any adjustment, try a few different trays (it may be a tray issue!). A 140-slide tray will be much tougher to get correct movement from than with a 80-slide tray on an older slide projector.... The 140 tray pushes the interface specification between a tray & a projector to the max.
The Carousel 850 is 40-45 years old. The symptoms you describe indicate the timing is off. Timing is an "adjust & test"..... try a SMALL adjustment and then test it.... adjust again & test again. Repeat until you get smooth tray action. See the attached illustration:

This is the gear that goes bad on Bell and Howell cube type slide projectors. If you have one of these projectors you can pretty much expect the gear in your machine to go bad. The original gears were made out of an inferior material that was too soft. New old stock gears would be made of the same material and although they have never been used they most likely will fail right away since they are made of the same inferior materal. They were made soft to reduce the mechanical noise when the gear runs. This was told to me by the person who designed them at Bell & Howell. These new replacement gears are made out of Delrin, an excellent material for gears. Delrin is sometimes used to make gears that are normally made of metal. Don’t miss your opportunity to finally fix that old projector or get a spare gear for your working machine while they are available. Detailed installation instructions will be included with every gear.
