I have an audio Interconnect cabe (3.5 mm, RCA) that I have hooked up to the Video 1 and then the Video 2 input areas, matching red and white from to the receiver to the cable.
You can use a DS-A5 iPod docking station or a RCA Y-adaptor found at retailers such as APPLE, BEST BUY, RADIO SHACK, AMAZON, etc.: http://www.amazon.com/APPLE-COMPOSITE-AV-cable-ZML/dp/B004EWEX9Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331155139&sr=8-1You can use a DS-A5 iPod docking station or a RCA Y-adaptor found at retailers such as APPLE, BEST BUY, RADIO SHACK, AMAZON, etc.: http://www.amazon.com/APPLE-COMPOSITE-AV-cable-ZML/dp/B004EWEX9Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331155139&sr=8-1 . Connect from the headphone port of the iPhone and use the red & white RCA audio cables to connect into the RCA audio input terminals of your TX-8511.
Connect the 3.5 mm. plug at one end of the cable to the headphone jack on your phone and the RCA red and white plugs at the other end of the cable into the red and white AUDIO IN (L/R) jacks on the receiver. Do not plug anything in any video inputs or outputs.
Testimonial: "I have connected the single plug to the headphone jack on my phone, and have tried the RCA red and white plugs in the Audio In jacks for tape, phone and video (at separate times). I tried the CD ones, which didn't work either, although I prefer not to use them anyways as they are generally in use."

The jacks available are phono, video and tape. The CD jack is in use. I have tried tape, and it doesn't seem to work. I have tried video and it doesn't work either, so I won't continue with that. Do I have options that will work?
I have jacks for the sources plugged in in the appropriate places on the back of the receiver, then choose the one to play from the front of the receiver. These are Video 1/VDP; Video2/VCR (I have never used these); Tape 2-Monitor;
