How do I get water in my kitchen sink to drain?

3 bottles of drain cleaner which made it worse and a 15 ft. snake that didn't pick up anything. What can I try before I call a plumber? Thank you.

Hi I'm PeterHow long did you wait between the three bottles of cleaner. Some say wait 15-30 minutes then flush with hot water. It sounds Like your problem is further down the line maybe at the elbow where the vent pipe and the T connector is. I have gone on the roof and ran a drain snake down through it and unclogged the drain. Another method which I normally do not recommend because it can be very dangerous if you have already put caustic drain cleaner in the system. I have taken my air compressor and put an open tip on the hose while the line was crimped then stuck the end as far as I could in the pipe then wrapped a towel around the drain to seal it then release the crimp on the line shooting 120 PSI into it. This will blow a clog out a lot of times however you will need safety glasses, gloves , face shield and whatever else if you were crazy enough to do it after you put the caustic cleaner down it. The air pressure can back blow what ever liquid that is in the pipe back in your face if there is not a good shield. I repeat EXTREMELY Dangerous. I do it but I handle these type of situations all the time. So be warned. My preference for treatment before anything is a gallon of bleach let it sit for 30-60 min. then flush as hot as water as I can down the drain. Most of the time I never have to do anything else. Be careful you don't slip if you go on the roof to access the vent pipe
Good luck.

Remove drain pipe under sink with u shape clogged easy but use gloves due to drain cleaner. Drain cleaner only works on hair

Testimonial: "I didn't realize drain cleaner only works on hair. so this must not be hair. Have removed the rain pipe 3-4 times - never anything in it. It's 5 feet from the P-trap to the outside wall and I used a 15 ft. snake that went past that that that had a few resistances but then continued on and the snake came out clean and the drain was still clogged. Should I snake it starting from the open spot where I removed the P-Trap or from the sink? Thank you a lot."

I have a mobile home single wide older 1978 snaked auger type 25 feet kitchen sink drain still clogged

I had this issue about 6 years ago and the big(3 1/2") black ABS has probably colisped somewhere therefore all that water/sewer cannot go through. My was underground , so I had to hire a backhoe to dig up and install new black pipe. Years ago contractors used a cheaper black pipe and it did not stand up. If your black pipe is good, then it will be plugged at a P trap somewhere or it may be near the join close to the town/city connection...Where or what water/sewer is not going through...If your bathroom goes through, then It will be your kitchen drain...If its your kitchen, then the P trap is plugged under your sink.Replace it under 20 bucks..and make sure its 1 1/2" in diameter...they may sell you 1 1/4 BUT don't use it...

How do I unblock a kitchen sink that still won't drain after I poured a huge bottle of Draino Max and 2 medium size bottles of Ace Hardware drain cleaner over a period of 3 days and as soon as I poure

The fact that you ran a 15ft snake into the drain begs the question How long is the run from your sink to the main drain? Next is this run vertical , horizontal? does it go round any bends on its way ? and how does it terminate in the main drain?

If you are not on the ground floor most sink drains terminate in a soil stack riser and these connections are prone to "furring up" as they are slightly smaller in diameter at the joint point.

If however you can follow the sink waste pipe to an open gird or capped drain check the route for damage as a loose coupling can easily cause a blockage if it is weeping.

Again without more info' can only guess but if you are in a shared block check with the neighbours to see if they are having similar problems as it may be that the central riser is blocked.

HTH.

My kitchen sink refuses to drain at all.

You'll need a pro with a large cable snake and maybe a cutter head...

I hope it's not due to a garbage disposal. I try to warn people away from those things.

My kitchen sink is stopped up and i cannot unplug it! I have tried everything from draino to acid to snakes...still doesn't work!!!

I've had a similar problem and used a full bottle of main drain cleaner. It's only available at hardware stores and stores like Lowes and Home Depot. It should work unless you have tree roots growing into the main drain.

My sink is not working, have done almost everything to it. I have a sink that is stainless steel, We have a garbage disposile with it, and its not working. I have put draino down it, and the gel stuff, and...

PLEASE don't put ANY cleaner, (other than vinegar and baking soda combo), down a kitchen sink. You wash food in there...ok, that being said, you need to snake the drain (or have it snaked). Best to do yourself if possible as we (plumbers) charge waaaay too much for that. Does the "elbow" (trap) come apart?? If so, very easy process. You can get a hand snake at any home store for about 10 to 15 bucks. Happy snaking!!!

Won't drain water and backing up in sink

You have a clogged sink. Do you own a snake? (do not use any "liquid plumber" type cleaners in a kitchen sink as you wash and prepare foods in it).

Clogged sinks and toilets

Never use Draino on a toilet. All pipe cleaning liquids are not really a solution, just a temporary fix.

Since you said that the slow draining is associated with both the toilets and the sinks then I am almost certain that you have a venting issue.

Imagine a drinking straw.....now if you hold your thumb on the end of the straw and bring it up abouve the water level water remains in the straw. This is because air can't get in to replace the water. When your finger is removed then the water flows freely.

As with the straw, your plumbing must also breath. I would bet that one or more vents that are on your roof have become clogged with debrise. Squirrels love to throw nuts and stuff down there to build their nests upon.

Climb up there (safety is a priority) and try running a snake (~$10 at lowes) and see if you hit any obstruction. If so, use the snake to dislodge it.

If you would like, pour water down the vents either by hose or bucket and see if the water backs up. If it does then you have a clog. You can also use the water to try to clear the clog.

Thanks.
