Self clean cycle produces FSE1 on display

When I tried to use the self-clean cycle for the first time, the oven door did not lock as it should have, the oven did not turn on, "FSE1" appeared on the range display, and a continuous audible beep occurred. I pressed OFF/Cancel to cancel the alarm and return the display to normal. How do I get the self-clean cycle to work?

your model number confirms that your range was manufactured by WCI (Frigidaire). although this doesn't help you now, it may help if parts are needed.

now, there is an indepth guide online to fixing this common problem and I would like you to go through it and see if it helps you solve your problem.

If you have found this site previously then I apologise, if you still need help, by all means post again and someone more qualified may help.

F90 is a door lock code, Try this...
unplug the range.
wait 1 minute.
turn the range back on,
then while holding in on the oven door.
start another self clean.
wait 2 minutes.
then cancel the self clean.

do not release the door until the door lock light goes out.

SOURCE: door locks and F9 fault codes

The F9 code indicates there is a problem with the door lock.

Try disconnecting the power to the range for 10 seconds and reconnecting. Open the oven door and hold the door switch plunger in while you try these things. Put the control into clean for 5 minutes then cancel clean. You must hold the door switch plunger in for the 5 minutes.

Try canceling the clean cycle without putting the control into clean.

How do I find out what FSE1 or F5E1 means on my oven display

If your oven is by Whirlpool (or from that family), the F5E1 error code indicates that the door lock mechanism is damaged, lock motor isn't working or the sensor can't tell if the door is locked. Did you try to do a self-cleaning cycle on the oven recently? Can you open the oven door? Look at the lock mechanism near the top of the door jamb in the oven and check whether the latch move freely from left to right and back. If the oven door is locked, you open the back panel and try to manually move the lock mechanism to open the door.

Please add a comment with the model of the oven for further assistance. The model number will be on a plaque on the oven frame for most models.

I hope this helps.

How does the self-clean feature work on a Frigidaire CFEF366EMB model?

Hi Beverly,

I understand that you are looking to run your self-clean feature on your Frigidaire range, model# CFEF366EMB.

-To start this you will remove all racks and make sure that any excessive spillovers are cleaned up as best as you can.
-Next you will press the "Clean" button, and the display will show "---".
-Press the up or down arrows to select the length of time you want the oven to clean. Usually 2 or 3 hours.
-The door will automatically lock once your time has been chosen and the "LOCK" indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the door while the light is flashing. (it takes about 15 seconds for the oven door to lock).
-"Cln" will appear in the display during the self-clean cycle and the "LOCK" light will continue to glow until the self-cleaning cycle is complete or cancelled and the oven has cooled.

When the self-clean cycle has completed:
-The time of day or "END" will appear in the display window and the "Clean" and "LOCK" light will continue to glow.
-Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened.
-If "END" is in the display and the Clean indicator light remains ON, press the "CLEAR/OFF" button and the time of day will appear on the display.
-When the oven is cool, wipe away any residue or powdered ash with a damp cloth or paper towel.

-Best Regards-

How do i operate the self cleaning function

Hello - Before using the self-cleaning cycle of the appliance, remove the broiler pan and any utensils stored in the appliance. Also remove any excess spillovers in the oven cavity. Allow the oven to cool before cleaning. During the self-cleaning cycle, the outside of the wall oven can become very hot to the touch.

Typically to set the controls for a self-clean the first step is to confirm that the clock shows the correct time of the day. Press CLEAN. "---" appears in the display. Press the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW once. "3:00" appears in the display for a 3 hour cycle. To change to a 2 hour cycle press DOWN ARROW"2:00" appears in the display. As soon as the controls are set, the motor drive lock will begin to close automatically and the "LOCK" indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the oven door while the light is flashing (it takes about 15 seconds for the over door to lock). "CLn" will appear in the display during the Self-Clean cycle and the "LOCK" light will glow until the Self-Cleaning cycle is complete or cancelled and the oven temperature has cooled.

When the Self-Clean cycle has completed, the time of the day or "End" will appear in the display window and the "Clean" and "LOCK" light will continue to glow. Once the over has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. If "End" is the display and the Clean indicator light remains ON, press CLEAR/OFF. The time of the day will appear in the display.

If it becomes necessary to stop or interrupt a Self-Cleaning cycle, press CLEAR/OFF. Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. Restart the Self-Clean cycle once all conditions have been corrected.

F5E1 or FSE1 error code DOOR LOCKED LATCH NOT OPERATING

On this double oven, each door has it's own latch mechanism that consists of a motor, a position switch, and the door switch used to activate the cavity lights. Because the error indicated a latch failure (and the bottom door was locked), Start by cycling the power to the unit. Each time the power is removed and then applied to these ovens, both latches will lock then unlock the doors to ensure they are in the home open position. By doing so, you might be able to get the bottom oven door opened allowing me access to the latch assembly. With the latch removed, I try to begin a clean cycle so you could watch the motor operate and you will probably find that it will start to turn, but never would rotate enough to lock the door. Since the position switch was not actuated at the end of the motor operation, the F5 E1 error was again displayed. Replace the motor assembly

I have a Whirlpool Super Capacity 465 self-cleaning oven. I tried to use the Auto Clean function tonight, but after about 15 secs., the oven displayed error code FSE1, beeped multiple times, and then...

I researched your question regarding error code FSE1. I could not find a response regarding a self cleaning oven. If you will provide the model number on the below listed website under "cooking" you may get a detailed response.
http://producthelp.whirlpool.com

It seems that a general "fix" for error codes is to got to your electrical panel and shut off the breaker controlling your device for 1 minute. This resets the device and will reset the error code. (May not fix your issue but will reset code.)

Your manual should have a list of error codes to help you resolve this issue. If you have misplaced the manual, you can also download one for your device from Whirlpool's website as well.

If all else fails here are the U.S. and Canadian telephone numbers under "Contact us". I do not know if this is a pay line or Whirlpool will answer your questions and attempt to resolve at no cost.

Self-cleaning gas oven

Door lock motor has probably failed.....Self clean on many
ovens can be a self destruct mode. Door latch motors, sensor
probes and even the electronic controls can be destroyed by
this operation. On many freestanding stoves the lock motor is located in the right rear (looking from the front) with a long rod connected to the lock. remove the motor and unhook the rod from the motor cam. Sometimes bending a coat hangar into a hook and sliding from the right side into the lock you can unlock the door.
