I'm the village idiot when it comes to doing this sort of thing. Our above ground pool sat for a few years unused with water in it. last winter the cover blew off. I want to drain the pool. I brought out the pool pump. It's an AO Smith 1 hp. I put one hose into the pool and the other ran into the woods. Iused as garden hose, primed the pump and off it went..Two hours later it stopped. If I prime the pump, it will shoot out water for about 5 seconds and then it appears to lose suction. I opened it up and cleane4d the impeller. that helped for a few minutes then the same thing again. It refuses to pump water.
Re: swimming pool pump wont drain above ground pool
You are clogging your impeller take a wet vac put hose your using for pump in pool put vac on end of hose to woods and turn on vac long enough to get a water flow and shut of vac it is slower but will save pump
