I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2008, 3.7. Problem is ignition switch won’t turn off. Keeps cranking starter. The lightening bolt on dash comes up. Vehicle won’t start. Help please

I saw this problem on a 2010 chev diesel. We had to disconnect the battery. His problem was the ignition switch shorted out causing current to feed the starter . There maybe a broken connection with the switch mechanism that is not allowing the switch to change the internal selection slide.
Now if the key is stuck and not returning, then the tumblers may have come apart . This would require a new key and tumbler assembly.

To install:

  1. On non-tilt columns:
    1. Move the ignition switch slider to the OFF unlocked position (move the slider all the way down, then back two clicks). The remote rod hole in the ignition switch slider should now be centered.
    2. Insert the remote rod in the ignition switch slider hole and install the ignition switch on the steering column. Tighten the attaching screws to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  2. On tilt columns:
    1. Insert the ignition key in the lock cylinder and turn the cylinder to the OFF unlocked position.
    2. Move the ignition switch downward to eliminate any slack and tighten the attaching screws to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  3. Install any components removed for switch access.

1996 lincoln towncar won't start, ignition tumblers?

yes possible.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

I put key in ignition and it won't turn. Steering wheel will turn but key won't turn. We have 2 keys and neither will work. What can I do?

If the wrong key was inserted it may have bent a tumbler pin, maybe try some wd-40 or similar and work it with the right key, might drop the tumbler back,,if not the whole ign. cylinder will have to be changed

My 2001 PT Cruiser ignition switch will not turn. I have tried moving the steering wheel up and down, moving the steering wheel left to right while trying to turn the ignition on all to no avail. Help.

was the ignition switch getting hard to turn with the key for a while or did this just all of a sudden happen usually the problem has been going of for a while but people just ignore it until it gets to this point,it sounds like the tumblers in the ignition key switch have gone bad and the tumbler assembly needs to be replaced, the new tumbler assembly can keyed to the original key if the key is not worn out.this should be replaced with a new key if it is.
