"Performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire may resolve intermittent issues like a frozen screen, battery issues or trouble downloading content to your Kindle Fire. Allow your Kindle Fire to charge for approximately 30 minutes, then try the following steps.
To perform a hard reset on your Kindle Fire, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and then release. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.
If your Kindle Fire is still unresponsive, try charging your Kindle Fire before trying to reset the device again." from here. Hope this helps, good luck.

There can be many reasons why the Kindle may have locked up. Not knowing it it is in warranty or not, kindly follow the suggestions from this link: http://smallbusiness.chron.com/reset-locked-kindle-fire-72004.html

As a last resort, you can unplug the battery - let it sit for a couple of seconds - and then try again. Remember, this may void a new warranty. View this YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpffS2jN5Qo I had problems with my old Nexus 7, and resetting by unplugging the battery fixed my problem.

Good Luck

You most likely need a new screen. If you're out warranty, you can get the part at Kindle Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to open a kindle and install parts at Kindle Repair Guide.

SOURCE: Kindle 3 is one hour

You can't access pages like facebook from a Kindle, it will only load very simple text webpages, nothing as complicated as facebook.

To reset the device you need to just slide the power switch at the bottom, slide it to the right and hold it in that position for at least 15 seconds, you will see the device reset.

Please let me know if you have further questions, but the Kindle 3 is only meant for extremely simple text based webpages at this time, and special amazon formatted pages.

Please make sure you rate my answer 4 thumbs up, it is extremely important to me. I would be forever grateful if you could do so. If you need more help on this question please just respond to my answer here and I will get right back to you.

Thanks
Tim

SOURCE: My Kindle Screen was frozen.

Make sure the device is charged and then slide and hold the on switch for several seconds. This will switch the kindle off (not just put it to stand-by as with a short flip of the switch).
If it was off already, or after the above procedure, the same slide-and-hold will switch it on again (this may take like a minute or so).

If the software just hung and there is no electrical or mechanical defect, the kindle should be ready again

Make sure that the kindle is fully charged. Plug your kindle into the wall charger, a yellow light will light up. When the yellow light turns green, your kindle is fully charged. Then try turning on your device. If the device still does not turn on, hold the power switch for 15 seconds, this will reboot the device.

I assume you've tried holding in the power button for 30 seconds?
Leave your Kindle on until the battery dies and then recharge it.
Failing that, contact Amazon - they replaced mine immediately and without quibble.
