That is a very old chipset, i have a similar board, but it is an ABIT brand, which is now out of business, and it is not compatible with windows 7. i am sorry, but, if the manufacturer had no windows 7 drivers, you may only be able to upgrade as far as windows vista.
sometimes, you can get vista drivers to work in windows 7, but i really doubt that it will be that easy.
if you describe why you need a new os, and what you use the computer for, i might have better recomendations than vista.

you need to check all of your drivers, as 1 it sounds like your Graphics driver is not working well at all 2. you are not able to access your CD drives as your IDE driver is not compatible with VISTA and needs reloading follow the prompts on the following web page to get up to date drivers from the maufacturer http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us Download updated VIA Chipset drivers for K8M800 + VT8237R to solve CD drive problem http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/via_hyperionpro_v513a.zip Audio drivers http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/vinyl_v700b.zip

Is the driver the right one? What operating system do you use?
Try disabling/re-enabling the device and/or reinstalling the driver.
Type your model number into the search box on this page:

Download the available audio drivers.
Hope this helps!

Thank you Matthew, I dont really need a new OS :) I was just curious if I can install windows 7 on this very old motherboard. It seems that I can't, and I didn't like Vista at all :). Other OS's like linux are not my favorites and so I'll go with my old XP
