How do I change the frequency of a garage door opener 139.53930ODM?

The door randomly opens and closes by itself. It has stopped half way also. I don't know what to try because this seems like someone has a remote that is on the same frequency. I don't have instructions on how to change the receiver frequency for the opener and remote control. Currently it is disconnected for security.

Hi... You have to "erase all codes" (you can read that section of the manual and teach the opener to use the remote using a new code. You can get the manual at the Craftsman site, page 35. Essentially you do this: access the reset button n the back right of the motor, press and hold the 'learn' for 6 seconds or more, until the learn light goes off. TO reprogram it, press the learn button until the light goes on, then within 30 seconds, press and hold the desired button of the remote. Voila!

I have craftsman garage door model # 139.53918D, and it starts open without any command from remote controls. What part should be replace to fix this problem? Thanks

Sorry but this probably isn't an easy fix. These garage doors operate via radio frequencies, RF. The reason the unit is opening and closing on its own is because its picking up frequency from some other transmitter of some type. The radio frequency confuses the logic board on the opener and can cause it to open and close intermittently. There have also been a lot of issues and cases with air force bases interrupting garage door opener frequencies. If you can't locate the transmitting device, the only fix is to replace the unit itself or the logic board on the opener. This will put the unit on a different frequency from the one it's on. I hope this helps.

Door opens randomly on its own!

can you change the toggle switches in the remote and door controller to a different code than it is set on now. Like the two devices must match but hopefully the neighbor code for their door will then be different. Also can you change the frequency ?

One of my garage door openers opens up my neighbors garage door opener 2 doors down. What can I do to fix that?

Last year, I got a brand new garage door and it kept opening up my neighbor's garage door as well. It turned out that we had the exact same type of garage doors that were happening to work on the same frequency. Lucky for you, though, it's not terribly too tough to change the frequency and make it so that both of your doors aren't opening and closing at the same time. All you have to do is get someone to reprogram the door or find a way to do it yourself. All American Garage Door

My garage door will only open half way. It appears to be getting stuck when it is opening.

If you haven't gotten your issue fixed yet... I had the same problem (stopped opening half way when using the remote, went down fine, could lift/close manually fine as well) and this happened on our first cold weather day of the year which was very telling. Anyhow, there are two gauges/dials on your garage door opener unit itself (above, where the light is) which controls how much torque/strength your door uses to open or shut through resistance. I turned mine up some and it now works fine; what likely happened was that the metal tracks or the wood frame condensed in the cold and was providing just enough resistance to stop it when opening - as they have a security device built in to stop if they meet any resistance. Hopefully this helps!

Garage door opening by itself

Anytime a door opens and/or closes by itself I look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation and activate the door.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.
Or a remote in someone’s purse that gets the button pushed by other stuff in the purse.

The test is to disconnect the push button wires at the power unit. If the self operation stops you have located the problem. If you reconnect the wires and disconnect the wire at the wall button this will tell you if the problem is the wire or the button.

Keypad garage door opener will not operate

what keypad are you using with new opener? Frequency has changed. can't use old one. you probably never needed to change things; just needed to follow proper coding procedures.

Garage Door opens by itself

Your garage door springs may be out of balance. Try this test: Remove power from the opener motor. Pull the red release rope so that the door is detached from the openers drive. Lift open the door by hand- it should open all the way freely. Next, pull the door back down, stopping it about chest-high. It should remain where you stopped it. IIf the door is difficult to move, or does not stay half open, the springs need replacement or adjustment.
