If the camera has only been off for a few months, I would recommend that you take the camera and the battery to a camera shop, verify that the current battery is holding a charge and then check the camera with another battery.

Take the lens off and continue pressing the shutter untill it doesn't react anymore, you should then have a normal menu without the error message.Put your lens on and you're all sorted.Cheaper and less hassle than sending it to Nikon.

Nikon d60 will not take picture

The Nikon D-90 users manual says on page 256 that the ERR message indicates a camera malfunction and that it can be cleared by releasing the shutter.

I've found on my D-90 that the only way I can get the shutter to release is my turning the camera off. When I turn it back on the ERR message is gone and the camera functions as it should.

Occasionally, I have had to remove and reinstall the battery to make the camera turn off but this happens only rarely.

The users manual says if the condition occurs frequently or persists that you should contact a Nikon authorized repair center. I suggest that you contact Nikon tech support at www.nikon.com to see what they suggest. I think this information would apply to the D-60 as well.

How do I set it up on my Nikon D60 to use this remote?

I assume you're referring to the ML-L3 infrared remote?

Select Release Mode from the Quick settings display. Select Quick-response remote. This will make the camera take a picture when you press the button on the remote. Well, almost. The same focusing and exposure metering delays occur as if you'd pressed the shutter release button.

You can also use the Delayed remote mode for group pictures. This gives you two seconds to hide your hand behind your back before the camera takes the picture.

By default the D60 will time out after one minute if you don't press the button on the remote. Custom Setting #17 allows you to set a longer interval.

Nikon d60 - error. turn camera off and on again.

Locate the button behind the shutter release button with the green dot next to it. Locate the button at the back lower hand side of the D60 with the green dot next to it. Press both buttons at the same time.........This resets the D60 to its original settings and should resolve the problem.....

No picture taken when shutter release is pressed

if you see no reation of the pressing of the button i.e. no focusing, no error message nothing , then most probably a simplest problem , the shutter release button may not be working for few reasons : 1) defective switch. 2) defective flex cable. 3) camera exposed to some physical jerk or dropping resulting into disalingment between inner switch and the shutter release button.
