Hi have a 1984 evinrude 35 hp that wont start i have checked all wiring and fuse are fine as what i can see also have replaced the solenoid and the key start checked spark plugs and starter motor works but every time i turn the key over the auto choke and butterfly opens and shuts but there seems to be no power going to the solenoid to bridge to start the starter motor but have checked to see if there is power going to the solenoid and there is regards phil hope someone can help me
But if things are not hooked up right. My Electrical rule #6. If the problem does not make sense, check and clean all grounds. Also "won't start" is too vague. Will not crank or cranks but will not fire are two different directions. As far as the choke butterfly closing, it sounds like you have the choke wire on the start post. Review your connections with factory diagram.
There should be two hot wires one from the battery and one from the switch the one from the switch check should be hot when the key is held on the start if it is the starter solenoid is bad
