Had same problem with this reciever over the weekend. I had to hook up a TV to the COMPOSITE monitor jack and then I could see the menus. I could never get it to show the menu over the component outputs, however a DVD player hooked up played perfectly. Anyone have a solution?

Hi guys
It sounds like the unit has locked up from a power flip type situation. I suggest powering the unit down completely overnight and then fire it up again in the morning and see how it behaves. Some of your system menu presets may have lost their settings and may need to be setup again also. Get back to me here if you have the same condition after doing a full reset in this manner.

Check for a stuck/jammed switch, press each switch if one doesn't make a normal click sound or it doesn't move at all that's your problem.
If that's not it check the owners manual for how to reset the receiver (not all manuals will tell you how to reset it) Another way to reset it is to short the memory cap, but that is better left to a tech.

try pressing the TUNER button on the top of remote before pressing these buttons

Hi.
The volume knob issue alone sounds like it's hardware-related and therefore not easily fixed. Also, since the remote appears to be working (the LED's are lighting up), but the unit is not controlled anymore, the IR sensor is probably faulty as well. I would seriously consider sending this AV receiver in for repair. If it's still within warranty, you shouldn't need to pay anything for the repair.
Manual for your receiver: http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/av/english/re/RX-V1000.pdf
It's not much but I hope this helps.
