I would like to locate (preferably with a picture- and/or labeled diagram) the (AVR) (automatic voltage regulator) on my Powermax XP4400E portable generator. After replacing the starter rope and fan,

I have tried looking online to find a picture which indites the location and identification of the (AVR) (automatic voltage regulator).

    Thanks much, however my model does not have an AVR. i finally brought it into the shop a couple of months ago. They gave me the name of the part which I forget at this point. Genie Guro did not have the part and they informed me that replacement of the part would probably be as much as a new generator. I bought a newer more powerful one from Walmart. Much thanks to all again.

    Hi Eugene, I am working on resizing my jpg picturs which are all to large to upload.- Regarding the AVR pictures- my generator does not show an obvious moon shaped AVR (see photo 851) as shown in the Powermax XP4400E manual. According to Generator Guru my AVR, wherever it is located, would probably be one of the newer a rectangular shaped models AVR Automatic Voltage Regulator 477KSW115 http://generatorguru.com/categories/Make... to find it I would prefer more specific information as to which of the several wires I should move in order to find what is probably the rectangular AVR-. Opening the labyrinth of wires displayed appears problematic in terms of returning everything back to its proper connection/location-.Bill

Well if it is like my xp4400eh, the AVR is just under two bolts located on the end opposite the starter rope. just take those out and remove the medal end piece, then unplug one cable and pull off two other wires..lastly remove two more bolts and you have it. Good luck finding a replacement part. The only place I have found thus far is generatorguru.com They can surely help--part # for our generator is 477ksw115, it is about 61$ for the part. Pesonaly I am looking for a cheaper replacement but I don't know if I will have any luck finding one.

Unfortunately, Generac does not provide wiring diagrams for their products. You will need to contact a local Generac dealer or service center for assistance.

Output voltage adjustment

Output voltage is based on 3600 rpm @ 60Hz. Sounds like your generator is over speeding slightly. Put a Frequency meter on the output of the generator and tune it to 61.5 Hz, that will get your generator in the 3600 RPM range.

Power went out motor goes no volts why

If the fuses are good, your AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) may have failed or (less likely) you may have lost the residual magnetic field in your armature. With the generator off and your circuit breakers closed, plug in a corded 120V drill into one of the household 120V outlets on the generator. Spin the drill's chuck quickly, by hand, several times; This introduces a small electric current to your armature, "field flashing" the generator. Start the generator and check if the generator is now producing voltage. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. If no voltage, then it's likely your AVR has failed. You can purchase these online at ebay for about $35.00-$50.00. Buy a couple of them; these AVRs have a high rate of failure.

Generator avr

The AVR automatic voltage regulator normally gets damaged by a short in the rotor, wiring etc. MOST common is shutting the generator down under load and NO NO. The AVR goes wide open to try and maintain voltage on a gen that is stopping, always disconnect loads then shut off

Thus AVR part of the computer?

AVR = Automatic Voltage Regulation

It is not part of the computer. You buy it separately.

It protects your computer from power surges,
thereby increasing the durability of that equipment overall.
