The thermostat is probably shot. These units are repairable but disposable, meaning the repair will likely cost as much as a new unit. How can fix my Patton PUH 682 portable heater? Aft - 25330911-xrysbksmd4oe40lchygmaasz-5-0.jpg

I have an PATTON PUH 9000, it works when it want too on/off never really heating anything. As there is a RECALL on this unit, where do i get it fixed or my money back?

Here's a link to the site that has a phone number to call concerning the recall of last December.
Use it to determine if your model Patton heater was included in the recall.

There was also a recall in 1985.

Has the patton 682 been recalled? I am trying to decide between the 680 and 682 as I'd like to purchase one or the other. However, i just noticed on the internet that 682 may have been recalled. Is that...

Depending on the age of your heater, there were actually two recalls. One in 1985 and the most recent in December of last year.

This a link to the 1985 recall http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml84/84025.html

This is the link to the most recent http://thestir.cafemom.com/home_garden/113974/huge_walmart_heater_recall_over This one list a number you can call for further information.

Hope this helps.

I purchased the Patton PUH9000 heater last year. I puts out a lot of heat at first, but shuts itself off after about 5 minutes, then cycles back on after a couple of minutes. Is this normal operation? I...

My Patton PUH682 utility heater from 2011 is otherwise in excellent condition but Auto Safety Shut-Off seems to be a design problem. My overheat sensor quickly shut off the unit when surrounding air was cool. It is inside the bottom of the fan box wired between the on/off potentiometer and heating coils.
I identified it by turning on the heater and watched the metal contacts separate as it tripped. On my unit, the defective overheat sensor is hardwired. Since it was otherwise useless as a heater, I decided to jerry-rig it and hope for the best. I pried back the sheet metal edge of the fan box and wrapped the sensor with electrical tape. Then I took a very small squeezable metal paper clip and lined it with electrical tape. I clamped it over the overheat sensor and it fits perfectly to prevent the metal plates from separating. Now the heater works the way it should. The cable, coils and plug don't overheat on Hot setting and it runs continuously.

Wont stay running

Reddy suggests: 1. Propane supply may be inadequate 2. High surrounding air temperature causing thermal limit device to shut down heater 3. Restricted air flow 4. Damaged fan 5. Excessive dust or debris in surrounding area solutions are: 1. A) Refill tank B) Provide additional and/or larger tanks. 2. This can happen when running heater in temperatures above 85° F (29° C). Run heater in cooler temperatures 3. Check heater inlet and outlet. Remove any obstructions 4. Replace fan. 5. Clean heater. could not get manual for your exact model but if you want manual for RLP 125 then; http://12.153.20.74/manuals/113893-01C.PDF appears to be the same beast. Hope helps :)
