SOURCE: Frozen during boot-up, keyboard still works

Sounds like the PC is running into a hardware failure and the Compaq splash screen is probably hiding some additional information. It?s been a long time since I've owned a Compaq, however, what you need to do first is eliminate the Compaq screen to show us whatever boot details it may be hiding. I seem to recall on my old Compaq (and most Dells) I had to disable the Compaq screen in the BIOS settings. Hitting the F10 key as soon as the Compaq screen appears I believe will get you into the BIOS program, however, be warned if you change anything in there by accident you will be causing yourself a world of trouble. After you get into there you want to look for the Boot selection of the menu. In there somewhere will be a setting referring to something similar to ?reveal boot details? or hide splash or Compaq screen?. If it isn?t obvious let me know, I?ll have access to an older Compaq with a similar BIOS and can give you more details. If you are able to disable the splash screen reboot the PC and watch for errors. Based on the age of the machine and past history I suspect you?ll find a boot disk or read error.

SOURCE: emachine laptop Fn key locked

I think the only solution is to phisically remove the key from the keyboard - VERY gently, in order not to break or send flying the pieces to which the key is attached. The little rubber button underneath might be squished below those pieces.

SOURCE: HP keyboard, How do you turn

Your digital lock is activated.

To solve this:

"It all depends on the model you have".

Just start at solution "1" and work your way down to "3", If it is a Thinkpad use it only.

1. Simply press the FN (F Lock) and hold a few seconds.
or
2. Simply press together the FN (F Lock) + Num lock. (most common for HP)
or
3. Simply press together the FN (F Lock) + Shift + Num lock.

For IBM Thinkpad only, you must press Shift + Scroll Lock + Num lock.

How to turn off blue keys for an Compaq mini cq10??

Hi,

if you are refering to the blue letters or alphabets which are present on the keyboard. HP designs keyboard with a billingual layout in some Notebook models.

The HP "Blue" keys are indeed the "French" input keys or other language keys.

How to use the Blue Symbols or keys on a HP Notebook:

We can activate them by pressing Ctrl+fn+right Shift. To deactivate, press Ctrl+fn+right Shift twice, i.e. Ctrl+fn+right Shift then let go off Shift while still holding Ctrl and fn, then press Shift again.

When you press Ctrl+Fn+Right Shift it will switch to the the billigual layout. That means the blue characters become prioritie.

For example, if you are in the billingual layout, when you press shift+6 you will get a '?' but not the '^' sign.

My laptop keyboard has optional "blue" upper and lower case letters and punctuation. how do i turn these on or off. they seem to work independently. i must be turning them on or off without knowing it.

Those keys with the Blue function keys only works when you press the Function Key together with it those keys in blue. . .

Check every single keyboard key. you should find "F" in blue. . .

Sometimes the keys that have white and blue writing on them will only respond blue. How do i get them to respond as white instead of blue keys?

You have a FNC key on your keyboard. Since it is a laptop, your keyboard can not have all the keys that a normal keyboard has. This is handled by making some keys perform two or more functions. Thus, the alternate key use if the blue keys (function key is depressed). You will pribably find that there is a light labeled as FNC where you see your caps lock, num lock etc.. it sounds to me that you have your keyboard in alternate function mode so that the keys are performing the alternate functions (probably the numeric keys if it is a normal configuration..).
Thanks!
