Hi
You say that the radio keeps demanding the WEP key for your WiFi connection. WEP is just one of several security types to be used for WiFi. The fact that the radio is asking for a WEP key indicates to me that your WiFi is more than likely set to one of the other security standards such as WPA, WPA2-PSK etc etc etc. If this is the case your laptop and kindle etc will be using the same security standard as your WiFi router. To find out which security standard is being used in Windows 7, on your laptop, click on the active connection in the system tray to bring up the list of available connections and then click on "Open Network and Sharing Centre". When the Network Centre page comes up double click on the "Wireless Connection".
A status box will come up and about half way down is a utton "Wireless Properties". Click on this, and in the box that comes up click on the security tab and it will tell you the security type, the encryption type and the wireless key (click on "Show characters").
If the encryption type is not WEP then the radio will not connect to your WiFi, and the radio settings for Security and encryption need to be set to the same as on the laptop for it to connect.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

Unable to connect to wireless service in my house

hi there,
1st of all, have you checked to make sure your wifi is working properly? If it is, try connecting another device and see if you can connect or not. If you can connect then the problem is with the psp, otherwise there must be a problem with your wifi, so just make sure this is working properly 1st. here is a step by step guide on connecting your psp to wifi if the problem is with your psp.

1: Power on your your psp and navigate your way to settings and scroll down to network settings and press x to enter into it.
2: Next select infrastructure mode and then New Connection.
3: Enter a name for your connection and then press the X button.
4: Select scan to start a wireless scan. Once it has searched it will list all wireless connections in your immediate area.
5: Find your wireless connection and press X. Now your wifi should have some form of encryption and you will have to enter the wireless key here. The key will be on the back of your router in the form of numbers and letters. The length of the key depends on which type of encryption you have(wep/wpa/wpa2). Enter your key and be carefull to enter it exactly as it is on your router(i.e. small letter, capital letter, number... etc.). Once done, press the Right directional button to scroll through the rest of the windows, you won't need to enter anymore info, and just press X when prompted to save the new connection.
You should now be connected to your wifi.

If you still have problems connecting, please reply back and i'll be happy to help out some more.
Thanks, and best of luck :)

How to connect new laptop to router

Hello
In order to set up the wireless client, you will need to know the service set identifier (SSID), the Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key and the channel and mode.
Boot up the laptop and plug in the WiFi card. This will not be necessary if your laptop has an integrated WiFi card.
Install any drivers needed to use the WiFi card. Insert the disc that came with the WiFi card and follow the on-screen installation process. Most discs will trigger a new hardware wizard that makes installation extremely simple.
Double-click on the "WiFi Connection" icon. It can be found in the system tray at the bottom of the laptop screen.
Click on "Properties."
Select the "Wireless Networks" tab.
Use the "Add" button at the bottom of the dialog if your WiFi network isn't in the "Available Networks" section.
Click on "Configure" when you see your network's SSID in the "Available Networks."
Enter your network's SSID and WEP key.
Click on "Start," then choose "Connect To" and "Wireless Network Connection." Your computer should now be able to access the WiFi network. If the WiFi network is connected to the Internet, it should also be able to connect to the Internet.
Hope it helps, if so do rate the solution
Good luck

I got a itouch the wifi worked ok then plug it into the computer then it won't connect to wifi now

I had exactly the same problem with a brand new 3rd gen iTouch. It showed it was connected to the network but wouldn't access anything (invalid argument etc). I tried everything but no joy. Eventually I fixed it by changing the router's encryption from WEP to WPA2-PSK. Fixed it like magic. Where there had been no router or DNA data before, they were suddenly filled in. The key was different but was still on the bottom of the router. I had to re-enter the key on my wireless laptop2_bing.gif but that was a small price.

You can get into the router set-up page through your web browser. I found a guide on You Tube.

Good luck!

Psp problem

means the wep key you are entering is most likely incorrect. Go into your router settings check somewhere under wifi or wifi security. You will say it says wep or wpa look at the code that is on that screen and enter it in your psp. That should be the fix that you are looking for.

Wireless connection

From the home screen, select the Wifi connection icon (middle icon on the right). It says 'scanning for networks'. It should then bring up any networks in range, including yours. Select yours and enter your WEP key or WPA key and click connect.
It should then connect.
Hope that helps.

HI THERE I WAS TRYING TO CONNECT MY WII TO THE INTERNET THOUGH WIRE LESS BUT IT TELLS ME I NEED A KEY WHAT KEY IS THIS AND HOW DO I GET IT

Hi ELAINETONKIN,

The key is a setting from the WiFi connection your trying to use. If it is a WEP WiFi connections you need the WEP Key, which is a long string of numbers and letters. If you are using a WPA WiFi then the key will be your WPA password/passpharse. This can be found on the routers settings, or instruction manual for the router. If you have a PC or laptop that uses this connection then you would have already needed to enter the Key on there to allow you to connect.
