I have fixed this problem I have updated the Epson 1400 firmware and now it world fine. I have downloaded IPL USB SENDER program and new firmware file for 1400 printer and updated firmware. All manuals were included. I found this article - http://www.2manuals.com/1400fw_update.php how to fix firmware problem for epson 1400 and it worked

Asit is only a couple of months old seek a replacement under guarantee/warranty.

Same problem here. I found out that the problem is the waste ink pad needs to be replaced and I can't find one anywhere. Then after that is done, you have to use a utility software that is availabe only for PC and I a Mac user. I have a PC I can run it on luckily, but too bad for those who don't. Problem now is, I haven't found the software that supports the 1400. Sounds like sabotage by Epson to force us to buy another printer. If so, I'll switch to HP.

try printing a nozzle check to see if the nozzles are clogged by dried inks that why nothings printing. turn off the printer than press and hold power and paper button together for 3 sec. then release, it will print, if blank, all nozzles are clogged. do a head cleaning. hold the ink button for 3 seconds. wait until the power light stops flashing then print nozzle check again until all lines are complete,

Ye of course it could be faulty and Epsons are sometimes very fussy about using third party carts. Get it replaced at your store, try a different brand or buy a genuine Epson cart if you can afford it.
