Well, well, this machine was my bread and butter for years.
The black edge could be caused by the developer being U/S original life approxmatly 9 months, or an over concentrated toner / developer mix. That would need setting up again. You'll need a manual for that, or a visit from the local Xerox engineer. Do you have a wide format scanner to go with that system? Does the black edge only occur with a copy or a direct print from your CAD system?

SOURCE: Fuzzy Pages

In your troubleshootine menu, I think it is, on the screen, scroll until you find fix imaging problems, or something like that.
There is one for removing streaks and the other for removing smudges.
I would suggest running both and that should resolve your issue.
I doubt your maintence kit is bad, but I would pull it out and check to see if it is extremelty dirty.
Try those two procedures first.
There will be instructions on your User Guide CD on how to run those.

SOURCE: Xerox Phaser 8500 not printing black

Here are the directions to enable and disable Jet Substitution. This may very well help.
Some of the print head jets will not unclog for you. If that does not work then most likely the print head needs to be replaced.

o enable the Jet Substitution mode:

  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Eliminate Light Stripes], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. If necessary, select [Print Light Stripes Test] to make a Light Stripes Test print that shows any weak or missing jet and its jet number.
  5. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Jet Substitution Mode], and then press the [OK] button.
  6. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select the color for the weak or missing jet, and then press the [OK] button to select the color.
  7. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select the number of the weak or missing jet (1 to 309), and then press the [OK] button to confirm the selection.

NOTE: If necessary, press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Save Change and Select Another Jet] to substitute more jets.

  8. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Save Change and Exit] and then press the [OK] button to complete the procedure.

To disable the Jet Substitution mode:
  4. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Jet Substitution Mode], and then press the [OK] button.
  5. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Turn Jet Substitution Mode Off], and then press the [OK] button.

SOURCE: Lines along edge of paper

If the problem re-appears and updating the firmware (from office.xerox.com) does not help you are most likely looking at a replacement processor board.

Building Power Supplies

Get you a 12 to 15 volt Transformer. Buy two big power diodes from Radio Shack. A capacitor 100uf to 470uf that handles 16 volt or 20 v. Buy two 0.01uf Disc capacitors. Get you a board 6x6 inches. Bolt down transformer to board. Hook leads to Diode like this: One lead to Striped side of Diode(1). the other lead to Diode(2) opposite side. Use capacitor 470uf (+) to striped side of Diode(2). Use capacitor(-) to Black side of Diode(1). Make sure polarity is right + - etc..Solder 0.01uf capacitor across Diode(1) and Solder other 0.01 uf Capacitor across Diode(2). Parallel wise. This Bypasses Rf so you get no Hum. There you go simple 12 Volt DC current to run mobile radios indoors.

At college we have a w7200, how can we print across the paper rather than down it, for example a panoramic image across the width of the paper and say 20cm high

Try selecting LANDSCAPE as opposed to PORTRAIT by using the proper print menu in your application rather than the simple print icon from most tool-bars.

You can usually find it in the FILE menus

Xerox phaser 7700 having problems printing transparencies and accumulator belt problems

Hi xander4265:
I
Streaks in direction of paper travel
There are dark lines running along
the page in the direction of paper
travel from the leading edge to the
trailing edge (B-size print shown).
The printer displays no error code.
Note A-size prints are processed
through the printer with the short
edge of the print parallel to the
direction of the paper path --
making horizontal print artifacts
parallel to the shot edge of the
print.
B-size prints are processed
through the printer with the long
edge of the print parallel to the
paper path -- making horizontal
artifacts parallel to the long axis
of the print.
1. Check the end of life for each of
the consumables by printing the
supplies usage page. From the front panel’s Printable Pages Menu, select
Print Supplies Page.
2. Run the solid fill test pages; From the front panel’s Printable Pages Menu,
select Service Pages, then select Print Solid Fill Pages. If the missing bands
only occur in a single primary color, replace the print cartridge of the affected
color.
3. Swap print cartridges and run another test print.
Note Under some circumstances, streaking may occur in the margin of
SRA3-size paper. This is due to the edges of the paper extending
beyond the end of the imaging components. print-quality in the
margins of SRA3 paper is not guaranteed.
4. Inspect the Accumulator Belt cleaner; replace the cleaner, if necessary.
5. Run the Remove Print Smears routine. From the front panel’s Support Menu,
select Improve Print-Quality?, then select Remove Print Smears.
6. Replace the Developer Housing Assembly (RRP 27, on page 7-171).
7. Remove the print cartridge and (with a flashlight) check for debris along the
edge of the developer housing.

hope that this will help you.
