I have all manuals can't find a diagram for setting dials for a straight stitch one dial on back three on front please advise
The "dial" in the back is for decorative stitches which require a "programmer" to be inserted with the stitch formation you want to form. For a straight stitch no cam is required in the back of the machine. The three dials on the front:
Upper Left: Stitch selector
Upper Right: Stitch lenght
Lower: Stitch width
Using the upper left dial select the straight stitch picture
Using the upper right, choose your stitch lenght
Using the lower, choose your needle position, left/center/right

The brother website has a users manual for it that can be downloaded. Use this link to get it:

SOURCE: Proper Settings
A good standard tension setting is usually around 4.5.
If you find it to be looping on the bottom, raise your top tension. If it's pulling bobbing thread to the top, lower your top tension.
For straight stitch, your stitch width should be set to zero, although on some machines (and I believe your Baby Lock to be one of them,) the stitch width setting will change your needle position.
Stitch length is simply a matter of preference.

Hello
look
at the cam gear. This is the unit that the cam connects to. It could
have a crack or be split completely. If there is a crack the cam stack
will have to be replaced. The parts are hard to get and a good
technician is needed.
Testimonial: "That was the problem exactly. I am going to order a new cam gear and replace it. Thanks"
