KEMS379BSS just installed. When I run the microwave at end of time it beeps 3 times light goes out but fan stays running. after a few minutes it beeps 3 times again, etc. etc. and never shuts off.

Just installed and running tests to make sure everything works. When microwave tested, at end of cycle light went out, beeped 3 times, 3rd beep being a little longer than first 2, and fan stays running. After a couple minutes, it beeps same again. When you open the door it all stops. but microwave will not turn off by itself. no error codes etc.

The microwave is not supposed to shut off if you have food in it. it is designed to stay running so you will not forget your popcorn.

i can understad the tones, which can also be programmed off, but the fan continues to run indefinetly, which i would think is not by design. Plus the manuals say nothing about the fan running forever.

SOURCE: Kitchenaid microwave oven KBMC140HSO

I started having the same problem with my KBMC140HSSO. You cannot see the error codes without disassembling the control panel (the codes are on another display that covered by the front panel). After doing so I found the error code to be F2, E3 which is "Key held down too long, or key shorted". I am ordering a replacement keypad and will report back if this fixes the problem.

SOURCE: I have a Kitchenaid Microwave

F2 on a Kitchenaid microwave means you have a shorted keypad.

You have a failed keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: Microwave beeping and F2 error code

hi,
The F2 code is a keyboard failure. Since it's intermittent I would check for a loose wire/connection. open the control panel and reset the ribbon cable on the circuit board....

thank you,

Kenmore Microwave model Fan running and light on when door closed.

This is normal. Kenmore microwaves will stay running with fan and light on for a short time after food is cooked. The reason is to air out the microwave after cooking. Things like pop corn, Bacon etc. have strong smells after cooking. The ventilation helps to remove odors.

New unit used 3 days. Microwave beeps and screen goes to menu, or set time screen. Sometimes changes the date all by itself. Does this in the middle of the night all night long.

I advice you to contact service if it has guarantee. This seems to be a psychological problem about your oven(!). Technical person need to do an electronic research surgery on its board to see if there is any wrong thing.

That is probably a bad primary interlock (bottom door switch).

See this file for help on checking and replacing door switches.

Mt1510w will only run 1min&20 sec. then shuts power off

I would say that the magnetron is overheating and its thermostat is being tripped, which will interrupt all power until it cools down a few minutes later.

It may be failing because the internal cooling fan is not running, because the filter is clogged, or because the magnetron is failing.

If you cooktop lights recently failed (wouldn't come on, wouldn't shut off, stayed on bright or dim, etc.) then the surge that caused that failure may have interrupted the power circuit to the internal cooling fan.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the magnetron will be destroyed.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

Frigidaire microwave doesn't work

Don't have a fix for your problem, but my Frigidaire microhood just did the exact same thing--about the same age, started cooking some food and it worked for a few minutes and then just stopped--time kept going, light stayed on, but turn table stopped and fan noise cut out. I tried it a few more times and it seemed to fade in and out and then stopped trying.

GE microwave won't turn off

Just checked the GE website. Had the same problem with my 5 year old microwave. GE website says to close and open the door quickly three times. First time I did this it didn't work. Second time I closed the door with some significant force and reopened it more quickly. Worked. Unplugged the microwave, plugged it back in, still fine.

Microwave's Power goes off after 3 minutes running..

If the time from START to shut off were EXACTLY 3 minutes, then I would suspect a sensor problem or corrupted code in the microprocesor. But since that time sounds more random, it sounds heat-related, and I would suspect a failing magnetron or a failure in the cooling system. If the cooling fan is not running while the oven is cooking, this failure can occur, and can destroy the magnetron in short order. A cracked magnet (has the oven been dropped?) or other problem can cause a magnetron to go bad and overheat. If it's under warranty, I would definitely contact the manufacturer (see your manual) to find an authorized local servicer. If it's out of warranty, I would balance the cost of a new microwave versus a bench diagnosis fee of $25 or more or an in-shop repair cost of maybe $80 or more.
