Coaxial cord won't fit on VCR/DVD

This is Katie again. I got an answer to my problem re: "Magnavox DV220MW9 DVD player/VCR: just bought, but can't figure out how to connect it to TV and record on VHS"
Answer: "your cable tv connect into dvd/vcr,video/audio out connect to av in your tv,solved"
However, my coaxial cable is threaded, but the "port" on the VCR/DVD player is not. How do I connect them? Does the S-video cord work to fix the original problem? I'd rather connect the cable into the VCR/DVD if I can, but mostly, just want to be able to record tv shows onto VCR. (Sorry for being so techno-inept, appreciate your answers!!!). Katie Thanks again!

It says "coaxial" above the port. And it doesn't have any color in it--the others are white and yellow and red and such, but this one is empty where the others have colors. Thanks.

Thanks to all who tried to help. I ended up just taking the thing back and getting a DVD/VCR combo with a tuner. Cost a lot more, but I know I can figure this out. But THANKS SO MUCH!!! Katie

Are you sure that the port that is unthreaded is actually coaxial. I've never seen an unthreaded coaxial port, just unthreaded push on connectors.

What color do you see on the center ring on the connection of the vcr?

  • Anonymous Jul 07, 2009

If it is truly un-threaded, you can actually buy push on type coaxial cables. Here is a link from Ace hardware, but you could find these at most electronic stores or possibly at Target.

Magnavox dv220mw9 the vcr player won't play

Someone will have to open the unit to see what is happening---either tape is not loading all the way or when FF or Rewind hit not moving the reels----could be as simple as a belt or a bad drive idler (most use either a rubber wheel or gears to move the tape in Play, FF, and Rewind.

Magnavox DV220mw9 won't record from Tv, hard to connect

check out this diagram, paying close attention to the audio video cable hookups.

assume the cable tv box represents the converter box

you are going to come out of the converter box audio and video outputs into the new magnavox dvd/vcr combo audio and video inputs.

Then out of the new magnavox dvd/vcr combo outputs to the inputs on the tv if it has such inputs. The TV will have to operate on the video input 1 or 2 if the tv has such a thing, use the remote for the tv to adjust the input signal to line in 1 or 2 depending on what it has.

If the tv has no coaxial input or audio video inputs then you might have to use an adapter, you can get these from radio shack.

You say it will not record from the tv, but in all actuality the dvd vcr combo is getting the signal from the converter box not the tv, do you understand what I mean here?

So the dvd vcr combo gets input from the converter box so you will have to set it to view signal from the line input you have plugged in from the converter box. line 1 or 2 or whatever the input is.

the tv will have to be set on the line input to view the signal from the dvd vcr combo.

That is as easy as I can put it. Study the diagram closely. You will see what I mean.

If you only have a ANT In or RF Coaxial hook up you will need a RF Modulator
