When I placed my USB in the USB Drive(I already used it a couple of times),Windows said it had to formt it. And me,not reading the warnings and stuff, beacuse Im too lazy, formted it.I had my lock prottecting all 8 GB of my USB. Now,I dont have any memory left, beacuse the Windows deleted my lock. Dant use a different one than I downloaded from the internet, but I cant find the one that I had. (btw,my stick is one of the older models i think, doesnt have any lights on him,you have to push and pull the button to eject the stick)
Just google "rescue my files"
Lots of sites are offering software to recover deleted files, or even files from a formatted drive.
Be aware, if you did write anything on the drive after formatting, it will decrease the chance of and the amount of files you can rescue.
Most sites offer a trail version wich you should use first, to see if there is still something to rescue. To my knowledge there were some good freeware programs, but not sure they are still there. I use a paid version, since I deleted a drive by accident

Try this..maybe work for you..cause it's work for me
in your explore click tools- folder options-view
check "show hidden files and folders" box and
"hide protected operating system files" box.
press ok. Your folder and picture will appears..
Cause in my case the virus change the folder into protected operating system files..
I hope will work for you too..good luck

Two possibilities.
1. The firmware on your PSP is too old to recognise the 8GB (only recognises up to 4GB).
2. If firmware is up to date you have a fake memory stick (easy way to check is to check the info for the memory stick on your PSP if its says that MAGIC GATE is unknown rather than supported then it is fake.
The fake ones typically double compress the data so that it appears to have 8GB when in reality it does not.

I had the same prob. Just format the memory stick with windows and in the window that pops up on the third line choose 8192byte. Worked for me.

Use any linux bootable distro, like puppy (100 MB ) Slax ( 200 MB) or ubuntu to make a live boot, or use any pc which has linux installed can format your USB to its full capacity.
