If rock is quartz or grannite use a torch to heat them up and dose it with cool water , shatters the rock into sand happend all the time in the quarry i worked at on heavy equipment , that torch idea worked everytime

Sounds like you have a broken or partially broken shear pin in the auger.Check along the auger[machine off]and see if there is what looks like a bolt anywhere along the auger shaft.If there is [and there will be] remove and inspect it and you will see why the auger is not working.Next time,never clean out a chute or auger while the engine is running,people loose limbs this way.

Hi, I will try to help you with this problem. I think the problem might be an adjustment issue. If you take the cover, usually plastic, situated just in front of the engine housing, you will see the belts and pulleys. Without the engine running, press on the auger/impeller lever, and if you look inside you should see how the belt is made to engage the auger pulley. Probably by an idler pulley that pushes on the belt to make it tight to turn the big pulley. That is the most popular way, it is to loosen the bolt on the idler pulley and push it towards the belt so it applies more pressure to the belt to turn the auger pulley and tighten the bolt. There could also be an adjustment on the linkage that might be adjustable. Another possibility is that the belt is worn and is riding on the bottom of the pulleys therefore not providing enough friction to turn the pulleys properly. I think if you take a good look at that system you will comprehend it. Hope this is helpful. All the best and good luck. I will gladly answer any other questions.

Sounds like the auger belt is too tight. What belt did you use? Toro 37-9080? If you used the right belt, there is an adjustment on the cable going to the pulley that pulls the belt. Follow the cable to where it goes into the side of the machine. There should be an adjuster. Loosen the adjuster so that there is enough free play so the auger does not turn when the handle is not pulled.

Depending on your make of snowblower, At the impeller there is usually 1 or 2 shear pins or bolts circled in red. If the impeller and the impeller shaft are turning but the augers are not, the gear may be stripped inside the gear box circled in yellow or the keyway may have sheared between the auger gear and the auger shaft.

Snowblower....auger takes time to get going...like five minutes...it will struggle to start spinning then eventually warms up and is fine....whats the issue?
It is most likely your auger drive belts. There are two of them, and they need to be replaced periodically. Your manual should describe in detail as to how to replace the belts. Always start by removing the spark plug wire.
Improper gearcase lubricant could also cause problems. Your manual should tell you specifically what to use in the gearcase, and how to fill it. Also look for grease fittings on the auger and use a low-temp grease to service those fittings.
Lastly; behind the auger is the impeller shaft. Reach in and see if it wiggles. If it does, then have your impeller bearing replaced.

How do i remove the impeller from mycraftsman 1350 series 27" snowblower
Before I begin, this is a fairly involved process so if you dont have some mechanical experience you may want to pass it off.
First you have to split the snow blower so remove the bolts on the side of the case just behind the auger case.

The three bolts just to the right of the tire must come off. Then the case will split apart. Stand the engine section against a table or something.
Tip the auger section up on its end so the pulley is facing up. you must remove the pulley by loosening the set screw or bolt on the shaft. This can be very difficult due to rust.

After you get the pulley off you will need to remove the auger assembly from the casing. You will first remove the bolts/nuts that hold the ends of the auger shaft to the side of the case. When those are off you will pull the auger shaft/gear case assembly out of the case. It will look something like this...

Once that is out, you will be able to get to the impeller bolts or pins. If you have bolts simply remove the bolts and slide the impeller off the shaft. Again, this may be difficult due to rust and/or wearing of the shaft under the impeller. If you have pins, the pins will have to be pushed through with a hammer and drift pin smaller than the pins themselves. Then you can purchase new pins. These can be purchased at a local hardware store.

Once you replace the pins, put the machine back together.

Auger on craftsman snowblower is very slow.how do i adjust idle
Not sure how long you have owned this machine but the auger does not turn fast. It 's job is to chop up the snow and push it back to the impeller. The impeller is the round plate in back of the augers that actually throws the snow out the chute. That turns fast. Check to be sure the shear pins are not broken. Shut the machine off. Wait for the augers to stop spinning and then try to turn the augers by hand. If they spin on the shaft then the shear pins are broken-replace them by using original equipment shear pins.

Hi Craig,

Most snowblowers incorporate "shear pins" between the motor and auger. A shear pin looks similar to a nut and bolt or pin that couples the drive to the auger - but it designed to break or shear off to prevent damage to the auger or motor in the event of a jam or overload. They look like these:

Only the shear pin recommended for your particular brand and model snowblower should be used. Under no circumstances should a regular bolt or other steel pin be used instead of a shear pin. Check your manual or consult with Swisher to determine the correct shear pin for your snow blower.

I have a 3 yr old 26" snow blower. I ran the machine up against hard packed snow/ice and now the auger spins freely and all shear pins are still in place. The secondary impellor functions fine. I...
I am going to assume the belt is good if the impeller it running. You can check the belt by removing the plastic cover in the center of the snow blower.
With the unit safely turned off reach in and turn the blower by hand while putting a little resistance with your other hand on the impeller. Does the shaft from the impeller to the gear box turn?
Does the shaft that the augers are attached to turn? If the impeller shaft turns but the auger shaft doesn't, the gearbox in the front is bad and will have to be replaced.
I the auger shaft turns, check your shear pins again. Sometimes they will break but still stay stuck in the holes. Actually take one out and check it.
If it is a Craftsman you can get a manual from managemyhome.com and parts from searspartsdirect.com. You will need the model number of the snowblower. The number looks like 247.123456.
