Hi, I have a DECT2085-3 base with 3 handsets. I would like to add another handset. I bought two used handsets and would like to register them to my original base. One handset says DECT2080-5 inside and the other says DECT2088-2. Both handsets charge fully, however so far I have been unable to register them to the base. I can press select/menu on the handsets and get a list of options, but the middle button does not scroll up and down between the options. At first I thought one might be broken, but since both handsets have the same problem, I am thinking I need to do some other command. I can press select/menu on the handset 3 times and go from"handset setup" to "select base" to "auto". Then on the base, I can do select/menu, "register handset", and get a message that says "registering handset". I've tried putting the handset in the base, or just leaving it nearby. In both cases, after a bit the base says "registration failed". I think I need to de-register the handsets. When I hit the hang-up key and the number key at the same time and wait 5 seconds, I get a menu with "de-register handset" but can't scroll up and down. Hitting the select button at that point brings me back to "out of range". I can't scroll down to "base unavailable". So I think I need to de-register the handset, but without the middle button I can't get to that command. Can you suggest a way to proceed? Thanks.

Uniden suggested to reboot the phone by disconnecting the battery, holding down the Star and Pound key, and reconnecting while holding down both keys. I was able to clear the phone number cache, but the central toggle button still doesn't work. Uniden tells me the phone is broken beyond repair.
