What would cause new fuse to blow when powering on (Sony STR-DN1030 Receiver).

Not sure if my kids did something, but unit does now power on. Power light changes when plugged in from red (dot) to green for a few seconds then clicks off. No other lights come on. I opened the case to find the fuse next to incoming power is blown 8A 125V. I replaced the fuse to find it immediately blows the new fuse. Nothing odd with incoming power 110v (standard) and unit does not have a incoming power switch to alternate.

Look in the circuit board area where the power cord mates with it for capacitors that have bulging tops (instead of the flat tops that are normal). If you see even one, you need to replace all the large capacitors othe power supply section (normally around 5 or 6).

Testimonial: "Without removing any boards to inspect closer, I don't see any capacitors bulging. I will pull boards and look closer later tonight. I unplugged the transformer from all outbound connections and powered the unit ON... No blown fuse this time... Power cord goes into a small sister board (with fuse) and then to the transformer."

There are no bulging tops. I've looked into a thermal fuse inside the power transformer. Looking at how to gain access to the fuse (found a YouTube video).

I have a SONY str-de715 receiver and the display does not work. I've tried to increase the brightness and replaced the fuses. Do you have any other DIY suggestions that would be helpful?

Does the rest of the receiver work? Do you get audio output? If not, it could be the main power transformer. There is a thermal fuse buried in the core that if this opens, it will cause the unit to not power up completely.

SONY RECEIVER MODEL STR - D315 keeps blowing a fuse

When the main fuse blows on a sony, it is usually caused by shorted output transistors. You would have to replace these transistors before the unit will not blow the fuse and power up correctly.

My Sony STR-DG920 shuts off then comes back on by itself every 4-5 minutes. It very quickly loses power then comes back online. Any ideas what might be the problem?

The problem is the Power Switch. The switch on the STRDGF920 is very problematic. When the receiver is on very lightly move around the power switch with your finger. do not use enough pressure to turn the unit off. Just very lightly slide your finger over the switch and you will see your problem happen. I have two STRDG920 units with the same problem. One is so sensitive I can blow on the switch and it will power cycle off and on. I have called Sony and they said they do not offer a replacement part power switch. I will have to figure something out.

Working on for friend. Unit does not power up, no fuses blown

The most obvious place to check is anything to do with the power supply, such as the transformer. A fuse will only blow if an overload occurs, caused by something acting like it was just a piece of wire. However if something acts like a broken wire, everything justs stops dead and the fuse doesn't blow!

I have a Sony STR DB930. Something happend and it

The fuse blowing is a symptom of something seriously shorted internally. What preceded the initial problem? Smoke is bad. Fire would be soon to follow without the fuse blowing. Take it to a tech.

Blows main fuse when power is turned on

Shorted power supply/module is most likely problem.

Sony STR-D565 fuse continues to blow

You could have a shorted winding in the power transformer. The diodes in the power supply can be shorted. Filter capacitors can short and send power to ground which will blow the fuse.

Sony str-de845 Powers up, relay clicks, fuses BLOW!

This condition, may be produced by defective components (Q506, Q507). you can remove those transistor, replace the fuses, power-on and wait for relays click. if the fuses not blown again, them replace both transistor.
