Powder spreads on drum in 7535 brother printer. What should i do?. Please help

Your Brother printer model 7535's drum may be getting toner powder on it for a number of different reasons.
You might try the following troubleshooting steps:

Make sure the toner cartridge is seated and correctly put in the printer by checking it.
Toner powder may spread on the drum if the toner cartridge is not placed properly.

Cleaning the drum may be necessary if it is unclean or has toner powder on it.
A clean, lint-free cloth should be used to carefully wipe the drum after opening the printer and removing the toner cartridge.
Avoid touching the drum with your fingers as this may leave a fingerprint that can affect print quality.

Replace the drum: The drum may need to be replaced if it is worn out or damaged.
For information on how to change the drum, consult the documentation or manual that came with your printer.

Go at the printer's settings:
Make sure the printer's settings are configured properly for the kind of paper you are using.
Toner powder may spread on the drum if the printer is configured to use heavy or thick paper.

Toner cartridge drum gets full of toner spreading it all over machine inside

Chances are your waste toner bin is full. Depending on the printer, that will be in the drum unit for printers like a Lexmark. In the printer cartridge for HP, or in the transfer belt for most color printers.

HOW TO REPLACE THE OLD TONER CARTRIDGE WITH NEW ONE?

Here's the process:
1) Make sure that the printer is turned on. Open the front cover. 2) Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly 3) Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. 4) Be sure to seal up the toner cartridge tightly in a suitable bag so that toner powder does not spill out of the cartridge. 5) Unpack the new toner cartridge. Hold the cartridge level with both hands and gently rock it from side to side five or six times to spread the toner evenly inside the cartridge. 6) Pull off the protective cover. 7) Put the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put it in properly, the lock lever will lift automatically. 8) Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from right to left and left to right several times. 9) Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the printer. Close the front cover.
That's it. You may also want to download the user manual as it has photos along with the instructions above. You can obtain that at: http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users%20Manual/UM_HL_2140_2170W_EN_1160.PDF
Hope this helps!!

I want to know what is inside the printer cartridge

Hi,

The ink cartridge are of different type and contains ink in different form.

  • Thermal Ink jet Cartridge (HP, Canon) - The cartridge contains a liquid ink, which is heated by a heating plate on the cartridge. A bubble is formed which forces the ink which comes out of the nozzle.
  • Piezoelectric Cartridge (Epson) - The cartridge contains piezoelectric crystal, which when current is applied changes shape and size forcing ink out from the nozzle.
  • Toner (Laser Jet Printer) - A drum contains powdered ink (toner), which is spreads on the paper using negative and positive charges and the heater sticks the ink on the paper.

I was unable to loace the Toner Cartridge. Could you please tell me where to open up and how to replace the tomer cartridge? Thank you. Regards, Lisa Li

Make sure that the printer is turned on. Open the front cover. Slowly but firmly pull the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly out of the machine. Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. Unpack the new toner cartridge. Hold the cartridge level with both hands and gently rock it from side to side five or six times to spread the toner evenly inside the cartridge. Pull off the protective cover. Put the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put it in properly, the lock lever will lift automatically. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from right to left and left to right several times. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the printer. Close the front cover.

If you want even more detailed information, there is a how to guide with ilustrations on each step on the Brother website.

My printer comes up with an error saying I need to slide the green tab in the drum/cartridge back and forth several times and return the green tab back to where it belongs. I have done this several times...

Moving the GREEN TAB moves the toner-ink inside the cartridge, to more uniformly spread it.

Since the toner-cartridge is nearly empty, you probably need to replace the toner-cartridge with a "full" one.

Printing is too light on the right side of paper

Hi,

possibility is that the toner particles inside the cartridge has been displaced and unevenly spread when the printer was moved. Try removing the toner cartridge, shake vigorously, to even out the thin powdery toner particles inside.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Brother MFC 9700

Remove your drum unit and you will see on top of where the drum unit sits inside your machine is a piece of glass(inside the machine). Wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth. If this do not work, remove your toner cartridge and see if the toner is spread evenly on the cartridge.
