I bought a Tascam DP-01 through a marketplace. But he does not. At startup, it stays on please wait. I have deployed a new hard disk, but the problem remains the same. I need the new harddisk first provided with a partition? Because the unit 2nd hand is there is no guarantee anymore. Who can help me?
Press and hold down the "track edit" and the "shut down" buttons while turning the power on until it says "-init screen- please wait". It will ask you if you want to initialize hdd. If so press yes/enter. This Will wipe your hard drive clean. If no just press no/exit. This works on the dp-01fx. It should work on the dp-01 as well.

Usually an indication of bad sectors on the hard drive. This can be caused by bumping the unit when it is running, excessive vibration, a power failure while it is on, improper shutdown, or expoure to a strong magnetic field like having a subwoofer too close or an intermittent faulty power supply.
Your options are to return the unit (if it is still under warranty), or if not to open up the DP-01, remove the hard drive, connect it to a PC and perform a low level format (or take the drive to your nearest PC repair shop and have them reformat it).
Unfortunately you'll lose any data that wasn't backed up, but this should bring back your DP-01.
SOURCE: what kind of driver does my tascam dp 01 cd take.
No CD comes with the DP-01. The Tascam relys on your computers USB drivers to work.
You should probably try the DP-01 on someones else's computer first to se if it works there.
This is usually some kind of incompatiblity between the usb cable or the use hub and the usb speed (1.1 or 2.0). I would try bypassing any usb hub you might have in use first. If that doesn't work you might want to try another usb cable.
Good luck.

Alright everyone, I have the same issues with my Tascam DP-01 "please wait" issue. Well after pusing the buttons and waiting for it to reboot, a,d taking out the hard drive and just about throwing it across the room and out the door I tried all my adapters and still the same results until It dawned on me I forgot one other adapter left. Well I tried it and there you go. Oz granted me a heart, a brain, and courage to Continue to sell this very fine piece of equipment. But there you go. Its power source is its specific demise. So buy an original power source or one like a P.C.'s wall outlet. Make sure the peramiters are correct so you don't fry your board. So if you do something stupit don't say I didn't warn you and it's not my fault. So there you go. Enjoy and hope your making better music than what's out there.
