Suddenly started making really loud grinding noise and will not print
When I hear loud grinding on a 1018,1020,1012,1200,1300 a lot of times something is not allowing the paper tray to lift up and down and the gears will grind dramatically! I tend to find a lot of foreign objects in these series of printers and they always seem to lodge under the paper tray. Good Luck
Ok first try restarting your printer, then try uninstalling the driver for your printer off your computer, restart your computer and printer and then reinstall your drive for the printer, see if you get a replacement for your printer or a refund

Filka, You are most likely beginning to experience issues with service station function usually created by the buildup of ink which becomes gelled and gooey, resulting in sticking parts. Two primary points of trouble can be involved; one very easy to see and reach- the other requires a fair amount of disassembly but once inside the job is not hard.
First, right on the edge of the service station (the black box beneath the carriage when it's parked on the right) you will see a narrow white wedge-shaped piece. This is a retracting "wiper" which is supposed to slide forward when the carriage is parked, and to the back when the carriage is preparing to move. It has a small rubber tab at the front edge which wipes ink from a gold contact surface right in front of the wiper. I've yet to see one truly do well at keeping the surface free of ink, but it does keep it from building up. It is quite easy for this wiper to become "glued in place" by all of this ink. Start by raising the maintenance door, causing the carriage to move out to the center and the wiper to retract(if they will). You can then use a dampened paper towel or cotton swabs to clean the contact in front of the wiper, then gently pull forward on the top of the wiper to slide it forward over the cleaned surface. This will remove some of the ink on the rubber tab and begin letting you clean the wiper itself.
The second area of trouble is the service station itself. The sleds and tray are likely to be heavily coated and the only real way to clear them is to disassemble the case for access. Problem
The Resume light continues to blink after the paper jam is cleared.
OR
The carriage is stuck or making a grinding noise.
Solution
1. Lift the top cover to the printer.
2. Turn the printer off and then on again.
3. Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer when the grinding noise starts.
4. Move the carriage towards the middle of the printer (this procedure may take a couple of tries to get the timing correct).
5. Take out the cartridges and close the top cover. Turn the printer back on!
6. Reconnect the power cord.
7. Open the top cover, reinstall the cartridges, and then close the top cover

I first guess that it is the drum going out. If you have changed the drum......it is more than likely your fuser. Have you ran a supply check to get the status on your supplies?

I think the noise is normal for hp deskjet. When starting up, the printer read the head existence, and do cleaning. is it the first replacement cartridge? Disable ink status monitor.
