Frequent signal drop offs-unplug router-wait-plug back in
Frequent signal drops, so I unplug the router, wait 3-5 minutes, plug it back in, signal returns. Signal drop-off may occur in 5 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day..it's random...but frequency is increasing over past 2-3 wks.
When drop-off does occur, all LED's are continuously lit...(no blinking/activity).

Disconnect the power from the linksys for about 30 seconds then plug it
back and see if it stops dropping. Most times the dropping occurs if
you turn the modem and router off at night then when you turn them back
on the router boots up faster than the modem and that will cause it to
drop. Power outages also will cause the problem if the router boots up
before the modem.
If unplugging the router and waiting 30 seconds does not solve it then
unplug both the modem and the router. Then plug the modem back in and
let it boot up for a minute or two, then plug the router in and let it
boot up.
There are a few things thatcan cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move thewireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locatethe wireless router higher up.2. Have you secured yourwireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change thedefault password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID,and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC addressfiltering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s toconnect to your wireless router.3. You could be gettinginterference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers andcomputers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, betterstill connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted PowerSupply). 4. Check the channels ofthe wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcastchannel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currentlyused but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interferencewith your wireless router from other wireless routers and accesspoints in your area.
It can take up to 2-5 minutes before your router starts broadcasting a wireless signal and for the xbox to be able to connect to it, turn your xbox off and the router wait a minute then turn your wireless router on, wait a further few minutes and turn your xbox on and try using the wireless connection
I think the problem must be with the router. When it drops the connection, you can see other networks but not yours. that means at that time the wireless signal on your router must not be broadcasted. WRT160N router has issues with the firmware. Youcan try to upgrade the firmware of the router. firmware is the software of the router. Once you upgrade the software, unplug the power to the router and plug it back in. wait for a moment and now observe the connection. Click here for more information about the router and internet
RF interference is the most common reason why WiFi will drop signal from time to time.First – make sure your wireless router is not next to a source that can cause interruption.I have mine on a shelf about 5 feet off the floor. Also make sure that your wireless home phone is not right next to it. Home phones can cause issues with signal as well.
In this order: 1) Turn off all PCs and printers connected to the router. 2) Unplug your router's power cord. 3) Unplug your modem's power cord. 4) Wait for at least 2-3 minutes. 5) Connect the modem's power cord and wait for at least 2-3 minutes. 6) Connect the router's power cord wait for at least 2-3 minutes. 7) Turn on each PC separately and wait until it is completely finished booting before turning on the next PC.
If you still do not have connectivity, read the manual and change the channel of the modem. YOu may be experiencing some RF interference, ie microwave, wireless phone system etc...
Easy way to diagnos is call ATT DSL support and ask them to run a line noise test. This will check the signal getting to the gateway. If everything tests fine there is usually an issue with the device.
