Oven door handle falls off screw not holding on Kenmore 790.7876

Door handle falls off because oven door screw not holding..The screw appears to be to be too short and is stripping the connection..A metal screw going into a plastic screw hole. There is tension created by the sandwich of glass and metal that these screws are supposed to hold that doesn't help...Has there been a recall on this issue?

We have the same exact problem. It is clearly a design flaw. Ordering parts is one solution, but does anyone know if kenmore is taking any responsibility for this issue?

After several unhelpful calls, we called sears parts at 1800-366-7278 and they are sending us a supposedly 'new and improved' door handle & screws (for $44). When we receive it, we'll put up a post if it is actually 'better' or if it's just the same (to save others the same $44 charge). The part comes with a 90 day guarantee. Although I don't feel we should have to pay $44 to solve an obvious manufacturer flaw - we'll just be happy to have an oven that's 'safe' to use again. Fingers crossed.

I have a Kenmore microwave, model 721.62649200. The Handle to the door just broke off. I can find places online to buy a new handle, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to take the door...

I have a similar unit and I removed the outside of the door by loosening two flat head screws on the narrow where the handle is located. There are several screws yet holding the outside plastic housing too. Once these are removed the plastic door will come off. Then the handle will be accessible.
The same issue started with my oven too and I replaced the original handle with larger screws and using a high quality plastic glue.
This held for a while. The plastic door cover seemed to have changed dimensions during its life and warped. I ordered a new door and it lasted a short while. I then asked for a new door under warranty.
Bottom line they wouldn't sent a new cover but they returned my money. Apparently the doors all had crappy plastic issues. Currently we are using the microwave with out the door front. It still works like new after 10 years though.

WHILE MAKING HOT CHOCOLATE THE OTHER DAY, THE MILK BOILED OVER AND SOME OF THE MILK WENT THREW THE SLITS AT THE TOP OF THE OVEN DOOR BETWEEN THE TWO GLASSES IN THE DOOR. IS THERE ANY WAY TO OPEN UP THE...

First, you will need a heavy blanket to place the door on once you have removed it from the oven. Open the door slightly, until it stays open by itself, about 15 degrees. Lift the oven door off of the hinges and place on the heavy blanket. (The hinges may snap shut when you pull the door up and off, but this is actually normal. It takes a bit of finesse to get the door back on the hinges if they will not stay out.)

Remove the 4 screws across the bottom of the door. Next, stand the door up with the bottom on the blanket and the front facing you.(Hold the door by gripping firmly around the middle edges to maneuver door)

Now, while holding the handle, remove the 2 screws that hold the handle on, unscrewing them just enough until the handle is free. (You do not want the spacers dropping off the screws) Hold the door together with one hand while placing the handle out of your way.

Once again, grab the door firmly by the middle outer edges and lie the door down, the inside facing down. You should be able to lift up the outer panel and glass and clean the inside of the outer glass.

Reverse the above procedure to reassembly the door. You can also take the door apart further if you have stains inside the other glasses. Here is a link to a schematic for your oven door.

Hi,
This image might help. If not it looks like you have to disassemble the door until you get to the very outer frame, as that is where the handle screws are

Kenmore Electric Range - Door handle Original bolts installed at the factory came loose and dislodged from the door handle.... no problems but this... i can not screw the handle back myself.. i tried......

We had the same problem. We had some tough epoxy that we squirted into the bolt holes, then screwed the bolts in. It took two of us, one to hold the door together and one to screw in the bolts. We didn't use the oven until the epoxy set, but now we no longer have a problem with the door falling apart every time we open the oven door!

Handle screw broken

You have to take the trim off the in side of the door around the glass. Be careful, because the glass could fall out. You should be able to open it with a regular flathead screw driver. There is probably 4 screws holding the handle on. I am pretty sure the only way to get the part is through whirlpool.

Kenmore Electric Range - Door handle

I had the same problem with my stove. I tried to replace, glue the srews and other things, but nothing really worked well. It's a shame that Kennmore has such a design flaw in their stoves, but did nothing to help their customers.

Here is the solution that worked for me:

Fix the thread with helicoils (these are inserts that create a new threat in the handle). You can find the instructions how to use the helicoils on Youtube.
I replaced the crews with new screws that fit to the helicoil threat and now the handle is safely secured.

Handle on oven door falling

Murray...after a DJ here in NY from the '60's!

First, why is the handle falling off? Is it loose or damaged? Most of these handles are only plastic with holes tapped in. If the holes are damaged and you can't fix them, you will have to replace. Most handles are through bolted in the door. You should be able to access those screws from the inside of the door. If not....

How do take a door apart: First locate any screws in the bottom of the door. Remove them. Open the door and remove screws from the sides and inside of door. Get help supporting the outside of the door and note that it will snap shut when you remove any weight from the door. Caution, most door glass is not well clipped in...it may come loose!!!! You may want to take pictures of the inside of the door once you open it. Once the door is apart, locate any fasteners holding the handle and attempt to tighten them. If not successful, you'll need that new handle. Get an extra set of hands to help with removal and reinstallation of that door skin. You'll need 'em!
