If you want it to start with a start motor, driven from a battery, my guess is the battery is in bad condition. Normally a battery will perform less when temperature is going down, but an old or worn out battery can't perform at all when it is cold. I would check that first. Just take a good battery to start one of them and see what happens. Then see if you want to replace them.

SOURCE: Champion 3500 watt generator shuts down after 1 min. Not low on oil!

You have a carburetor problem. Stuck float or clogged filter. Gas cannot get into the carb as fast as it is used. Letting it sit for a few minutes will allow the bowl to fill.

Champion 3500 generator how to fix stuck float

It could be a carburetor problem or it may be the low oil cut off switch. Check to make sure oil level is up. If it is check the needle valve attached to the float and the seat. The old carbs used to have a brass seat. Some of the new carbs have a rubber seat and it may need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Can i use synthetic oil in my new onan 6500 portable generator

Johndeere 10w-30 in cooler weather and 5w30 in warmer weather. Any auto parts store has small engine oil. They may have a better idea when you go to purchase your oil for your particular climate.
