It is a "plug-and-play" USB-device, and *should* be recognized, if the hardware inside the case is in working order. So, exercise that "warranty" to get it replaced.
Try connecting it to a Windows PC (XP/Vista/7/8), to see if Windows will recognize it.
Windows XP does not have support for any disk-drive larger than 2TB. So, your 3TB disk-drive will not work. Upgrade your computer, or buy a 2TB disk-drive.
Hi,
The hard drive Apollo M250 does not have any locking mechanism. It only has backup software. If your computer does not detect the HDD, it only means that the HDD is already broken.
I work for Imation and we would advise you to try the following option: restart to your Macbook without the external drive attached.
Open your Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilites folder).
Plug in your hard drive.
If the drive shows up in the list in the Disk Utility First Aid window,
click on the drive, and then click on Repair Disk. If the process repairs anything,
run the same Repair Disk a second time to see that it runs with no
problems found. If some other error comes up, or it won't repair a
problem found, then I would recommend moving this drive to a PC, and
trying a repair tool through Windows.
Note: if you see the "repair" option grayed out, Going back to Disk Utility - (you won't be able to select Verify/Repair
Disk Permissions), but Verify or Repair Disk should be available if you
click on the device (the entry showing the manufacturer's info for your
external drive).
If that doesn't help you, please contact the Imation product support department at the phone number 1-800-351-8186 option 2.
I believe it's a usb connection? It should work on xp. The only problem i can think of is the driver, which should be available on their website. Is it an Imation brand?
Try plugging into windows xp and if it will ask for a driver then head over to manufacturer's site and download the appropriate driver.
Either the USB ports on your computer are not working
(try some other USB device in those ports to disprove this)
or the USB ports are supplying insufficient voltage/amperage to your Imation device,
such that it does not operate.
