How do I attach a larger screen to my MacBook?

You should be able to plug it in to your USB port and then open up Finder, the little square smiley face in the bar at the bottom of the screen. The flash drive should show up in the left column and then you can drag and drop files to it or if there is anything on it, you should be able to click on it and view the files in the larger right hand column.

Try clicking on Window at the top of your page the click on ZOOM in the drop down box. This should maximize the screen to the monitor it is currently on,

I had a similar issue with my Toshiba, i had to send it in to get fixed and all they did was replace the hard drive. try that or try restoring all your factory settings by attaching to another display device

Hard drive is dead or the signal from the hard drive is not being read by the ide controller. I'm working on a MacBook 13 inch right now with the same issue. I had a spare hard drive and a windows Vista disc, so I installed the hard drive and inserted the vista install disc and the laptop loaded and installed Vista on the Mac with no issues. I took the hard drive from the Mac and attached an adapter to it and ran it through a usb on another laptop and the laptop could not read the files on the drive....so, the drive was bad.

What OS are you running? What is it formatted as FAT32 or NTFS and how big are the partitions. Various operating systems, hardware and formatting schemes have different limitations. If you want to use the drive in Leopard formatted with NTFS which is the only way to create partitions larger than 20 or 30 GB you may need to install an NTFS file system driver like FUSE.
The other option is to format it as HFS and install Macdrive 7 in Windows to use Mac formatted drives in Windows.

I would suggest going to an Apple store and asking the folks at the genius bar. I'm not sure if you want to try and reconfigure your motherboard by yourself.

Am I correct in understanding that your MacBook is operating properly, but when you attach your external monitor it doesn't show anything?
I often connect my black MacBook 2GHz to my flat screen's VGA port. Sometime the screen doesn't respond for one reason or another. The fastest solution is typically to mirror the screens then return to normal. When that doesn't work, it's usually enough to restart the MacBook while it's still plugged in to the external monitor. If neither of those work, try connecting to a different monitor or finally try replacing the connector.
Unfortunately those connectors don't have the best life spans. (See Apple's customer reviews on DVI connectors.)

Sounds like dropped pixels.  My first guess is the computer has been dropped on its corner, with the pixel dropout radiating diagonally from the corner.
My saint bernard sat on my g3 lombard, and I have vertical pixel dropout because of it, from the top of the screen to the bottom.
And no, it is not normal for a macbook to have lines across the screen.
