How much would a dealer charge to replace a main oil seal on a 2005 polaris 500?

Trying to find out if it would be worth my time to do this job myself or just let the dealer take care of it for me.

Go to a dealer & ask for a quote,
if that is even possible, without
taking it apart & finding a problem

Your time is for the rest of your life
or when you get the job done

Have a service manual ?

SOURCE: main seal

First is it a front seal ,or rear main seal,(front seal, being were you see the pulleys and fan belts,,you have to look at the bottom pulley, follow the shaft to the motor, where the shaft goes into the motor is the front seal, the pulley and everthing behind it has to come out then you pull out the seal, auto zone actually has free tool rental that you can pull the seal, and a tool to put it back in,if a rear main seal its where the shaft from the transmission meets the back of the motor, youll have to pull the trannsmission back, check where you see the oil leek from, the front seal you can do if mechanically inclined, but if its the rear you should take to a mechanic,if this helps please give me a fix ya vote

SOURCE: 1999 cross country v70 awd crankshaft seal replacement

Your info is confusing. The rear cam seal is not inside the timing belt cover, and the crank seal is at the bottom of the engine, while the cam seal is at the top.

Is there oil at the top, around the cam seal? Or just at the bottom? It's common for the oil pump seal to leak. If you get the oil pump reseal kit, it contains the oil pump seal and gasket, as well as the crankshaft seal. Make sure you seal the oil pump bolts, Volvo has special copper washers for this purpose.

Just try to locate the oil leak before replacing any more parts. Sometimes it can be something simple like the oil cap seal or the oil trap housing.

Sorry for the severe delay.
I am personally going back to answer your unanswered question.
I do not know if you still need the answer, but I am going to answer it in case you still do.

The Front Oil Seal must be replaced when the Timing Belt/Chain is replaced. It is located behind the Crankshaft Pulley on the Crankshaft.

If a seal is bad yes it will leak. You will have to check with a Honda dealership for accurate warranty information.

Oil leak Chrysler Pacifica 2005

I take it you are talking about the pulley on the crank shaft This will be a timing cover crank seal and can be replaced after removing the pulley. Not a big job if you are mechanically minded but other wise take it to a qualified mechanic or dealer.

2005 Nissan Altima needs timing chain repair/replace what will it cost me appox.?

You need to know if your car engines is a interference motor first !! An interference motor is when the timing belt breaks while you are driving and the valves stop but the piston heads keep going up into the valves and destroys them and the heads that hit them. Usually for a mechanic will charge you about 50 or 60 dollars an hour so he has the book that tells him how long it will take to replace the timing belt so go call several of them they will say the same thing trust me I have called many of them in the past myself.

Car does not leak oil does not smoke and has good compression.but uses oil last time checked 1 qt in 500 miles 2005 ford crown vic

Hi:
Often the oil is simply getting past the small seals around the valve stems, and being burnt by the engine. You won't see smoke, because your catalytic converter burns it all up. it will eventually ruin your catalytic converter, so it might be worth fixing, rather than adding oil all the time?

Don't have money for a dealer trying to do my tune up myself.2000 buick regal ls

Tuneups are a thing of the past since computers. Air cleaner, spark plugs gas filter , oil change are the only things left more or less.Sealed grease fittings mean no grease jobs either. That's why they charge $100/hr, no money in normal tuneups.

How uch is it to replace the rear engine seal in a f250,85.with the 460

the seal itself is about $20 and a Haynes instruction book is about $15.
to do it yourself you are looking at about $35 and a days worth of work. I would rent a transmission jack too.

If you take it in plan on about $400 depending on what part of the country you are in.

I have a 92 celica with a main bearing seal leak

Hi there;

All I can tell you with the information I have is it you will be charged about 6.0 hours for a two wheel drive & about 15.5 hrs for an all wheel drive. You will be looking @ around $30.00 for the seal & then you will most likely be charged for some oil & shop supplies.
So if your garage charges say $90.00/hr your looking @ about $600.00 plus aplicaple taxes for a two wheel drive & about $1500.00 for al al wheel drive.
Keep in mind if the car is a standard this would likely be a real good time to closely inspect the clutch & be ready to spend another $300-$500 for the parts for the clutch. you shouldnt have to pay any extra in labor to replace the clutch.

Good luck, Hope this helps.
Farrout!
