There is never a reason to defrost a "frost free" refrigirator; if the fan is not running the refrigirator and the freezer will NOT cool properly and frost accumulation is minimal.
The likely problem is either the door switch or just a failed Fan Motor. Either one is inexpensive and easy to replace.
to replace the fan motor: remove all the shelves in the freezer section and the screws that hold the back panel. Pull off the fan blade and proceed to replace the motor.

Are you new to the business? Never a reason to defrost a frost free fridge, your kidding. A frost free fridge will remain frost free as long as all the components are working in tandem, I have serviced freezers in such a frosted up condition that the door won't close, a faulty defrost element alone will cause massive frost & ice build up over time.

First thing I'd do is defrost it completely, that means turning it off for a few hours with door open & letting the ice melt, you could be getting a buildup of ice in your freezer jamming the fan before the automatic defrost has time to clear it. Also check that the seals are sealing completely, (that can allow frost to form in freezer), if not use a hair dryer to soften them (gently) & mould them back into line.

When a fan doesn't work you will only get a LIGHT FROST that will disappear in a very short time.

  • Elie Balas Nov 25, 2014

Heavy frost that is caused by failure of a defrost system can be easily defrosted in 30 minutes or less with the help of a hair dryer or some hot water.less

I have over 22,000 service call and had 120 technician like Brian working for me and trying to learn how to properly make an intelligent diagnostic. Turning every concern into a MAJOR PROBLEM is a bad habit of many EXPERTS.

In a SxS fridge, ice forming is not likely to reach the fan that is mounted above the Evap coils. You are sending the guy on ghost chase

Hello,

The noise i suspect is coming from one of the 2 fans...if you hear the noise coming from inside the freezer it will be that fan thats noisy and if from down by the compressor that will the fan thats noisy. the part numbers for the fans are

fan in the freezer (evaprator fan) WR60X10185

fan by the compressor (condenser fan) WR60X10220

This is what to do. On the side of the compressor is a relay overload set. Unplug the power cord. Connect a meter to the wires going into that set. If there is no power you will need the mother board linked below. If there is power you will need another overload relay set.

Compressor not comming on somtimes / freezer staying cool not cold / fridge cold

Turn the termostat to high, check the following morning. If unit is not cooling you need to replace the compressor. However, before replacing compressor make sure all the fans are working.

Freezer cold /refrigator warm . we have a side by side unit a couple of years old the freezer seems to work fine but the refrigator is warm .It don,t seem to make any funny noises and the back is clean

When the compressor is running, if the fan by the compressor and the fan inside the freezer are both running, and there is no frost on the back wall of the freezer (if there was frost would indicate a defrost issue) then check the air dampener. It is located at the very top left back side of the fresh food section. If it is not opening up, no air will flow from the freezer compartment (where all the cooling takes place) into the refrigerator section.

FFA60 Hotpoint fridge/freezer Red warning light

if i read the english right, the compressor runs but the freezer fan only runs for a short time. no fan then no cooling. there is a fan stat so that the fan only runs when the evap is down to temp. this may be faulty. also on some hotpoint, the fan switches off when door opened. check door switch operating ok. this may also explain problem with fridge lamp
