Hi Ed Grant, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
Will need make and model info. Also which belt has failed; some mower used multiple belts in both deck and drive systems?

The scag tiger cub mower uses separate belts for the hdy. drive system and the mower deck. I am sure that the noise is coming from the hdy drive system. the noise increases with engine rpm increase.

The reason ask the number of belts as you specify which equipment you had. You reply narrow it down to 35 Scag Tiger Cubs models..

This assumes that the failed belt was the drive belt.

For the Scag Tiger Cub Series they are using two ildler pulleys in the drive system. Check these for bad bearings. If they are smooth turning but still a lot bearing play replace them as they can lock up at anytime and destroy a belt. The only other items in the drive system is the two hydro pump/transmissions and the engine.

As for the noise varying with engine the same can said about the deck components when they are in operation.

Recently developed a whinning when I first start to move

Where is the whining noise actually coming from .. engine/gearbox or elsewhere?
A whining/screeching noise could be a drive belt .. such as the belt that drives the alternator.

On a manual car it could be the clutch bearing making the noise until it warms up. Does the clutch make a noise when you depress the pedal? That's the thrust bearing .. the bearing that operates the clutch.

I don't think you have too much to worry about. If you had engine trouble there would be knocks, rumbles and strange noises at all speeds.

A whining noise is usually associated with something spinning/turning .. such as a pulley/idler on a drive belt or a bearing alternator.

Put your mind at rest - get a mobile mechanic's opinion.

This water pump is making funny noise how can i solve this

A water pump on any auto making noise is a sign of bearing failure on the water pump drive stem. The only remedy is to have the water pump replaced or replace it yourself. The bearing gets water intrusion or dries out and the bearing fails. The water pump is not expensive but labor costs can be substantial depending upon the location of the water pump. Many water pumps are driven by the timing belt on smaller cars. Gaining access to the water pump often involves removing the timing belt cover and the timing belt. Failure to reinstall the timing belt in the exact same position as it was removed can cause catastrophic engine failure. Without your vehicle make and model this response is generic most vehicles.

2002 PT Cruiser. Vehicle shut down while driving. Received P0340 Trouble code..No camshaft position sensor signal at pcm. I replaced Position Camshaft Sensor, book suggests life on these 5-10 years, It...

This could be related to a loose camshaft drive belt. If you have slack in the belt the camshaft will rebound on over run causing the P0340. It can also be a Crackshaft sensor problem too.(P0335) Hope this helps...

Screeching noise coming from the drive belt is this common

When your drive belt becomes old and stretches so it is no longer tight enough the belt will make a loud squealing noise and will need to be replaced. While the drive belt is off during replacement, you or the mechanic replacing the belt will need to turn each pulley in the system that can be turned by hand to see if any of those are making a metallic noise also. If they make a metallic noise, they are worn out. It is common for a drive belt to wear out and cause this noise.

Lookng for serpentine belt routing diagram for 1998 2.4 L sunfire

1998 Pontiac Sunfire Belt Routing Diagram

A drive belt routing diagram is needed when replacing a drive belt to help simplify the installation process. The problem arises as there are many different ways a drive belt can be configured. In this configuration the belt length will vary not allowing the belt to be installed. Also alternative configurations could turn a particular accessory the wrong direction, creating more problems. Always reinstall the drive belt in the exact configuration as the previous belt to prevent these problems. Always use high quality replacement products to avoid premature drive belt failure. If a multi rib drive belt fails it must be replaced immediately to avoid such situations such as engine overheating and loss of the power steering system. Whenever a belt replacement is required inspect the pulley condition to ensure there are no sharp edges on any of the pulleys, this will cause the belt to shred and fail. Confirm that all pulleys are free from debris such as small pebbles, these pebbles will cause the belt to pit and significantly impair the belt performance. The belt tensioner plays an important role to the drive belt performance, if this tensioner is weak it can allow the belt to lose tension allowing the belt to jump and skip. This condition will result in noises such as squeaking, chirping and ticking.

Bad slapping noise.

could be something with the timing chain system. There were some complaints about the chain slapping the cover and even a good number regarding failure for these cars. If it's anything more than a slight tick I would, or have a professional, take a look at it. If one of the guides, or the tensioner, or even a link in the chain itself let go it can spell big trouble if you try to drive it.
