SOURCE: whirlpool side by side freezer not working fridge is fine

Pull out the fridge and unplug. Remove the back cover. Clean the condenser coils and fan. If they're difficult to get to, use compressed air to blow out. (you can get a can from walmart). That should fix the problem. If that doesn't work, then write back.

SOURCE: freezer working fine but fridge wont go cold!

Hi

Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils or a condenser that is clogged with dust, lint, and dirt.

Evaporator coils Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel on the inside of your freezer. A sure sign that there is a build-up is the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer. Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets.

The refrigerator is supposed to self-defrost approximately four times in every 24 hour period. If one of the components in the self-defrosting system fails, the refrigerator continues to try to cool. Eventually, though, so much frost builds up on the evaporator coils that the circulating fan can't draw air over the coils. There may still be a small amount of cooling because the coils are icy, but with no air flow over the coils, cooling in the refrigerator compartment is quite limited.

Here's an inexpensive, though inconvenient, way to determine if the problem is with the self-defrosting system. Remove all of the perishable food from the refrigerator and freezer, turn the thermostat in the refrigerator to Off, and leave the doors open for 24 to 48 hours. (Be sure to have several towels ready in case the melting frost and ice causes the drip pan to overflow). This allows the refrigerator to defrost "manually." When the frost and ice build-up has completely melted away, turn the thermostat back to a normal setting. If the refrigerator then cools properly, it indicates a problem with one of three components in the self-defrosting system:

  • The defrost timer

  • The defrost thermostat (also called the bi-metal switch)

  • The defrost heater

If it still does not cool properly, there may be a problem with the refrigerant level or the compressor. You may need to consult with a qualified appliance repair technician to further diagnose the problem

Condenser Self-defrosting refrigerators all have a set of coils and a cooling fan, usually under the refrigerator, that need to be cleaned regularly. If these coils get coated with dust, dirt or lint, the refrigerator may not cool properly. The coils may appear to be a thin, black, wide radiator-like device behind the lower kick-panel. To clean them, disconnect the refrigerator from the power source, use a refrigerator condenser brush (see the Appliance Accessories section) and your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils of any lint, pet hair, etc. You may not be able to get to all of the condenser from the front, it may be necessary to clean the remainder of the condenser from the rear of the refrigerator.

SOURCE: Hi i have a hotpoint mistral plus fridge freezer,

hi is this the frost free version ??? if it is which i think it is it could be a fault with temp module{frost free have electronic modules to control the system rather than a old fashioned bog standard thermostat inside the fridge} the fans should be controlled by the module in case of frost free models it could be the module which is playing up

Kenmore Elite won't cool. How to trouble shoot

Kenmore Elite is a who range of appliance, but as you are in Kenmore Refrigerators category, let's assume it's that. All questions need full 'make model (what it is)' first 3 words please.

The only easy thing to do would be to make sure the condenser fins are clear of fluff, the compressor is running, the compressor fan is running and the internal circulation fan is running. If it is a fridge with freezer above, a blockage at the back of the freezer due to a failed defrost heater can cause an issue where no cold air drops into the fridge.

The other possibility is low refrigerant gas, but that is not something you can rectify yourself.

Check the condenser coils to determine if they are dirty-if the condenser coils are dirty, clean them. Verify the freezer temperature is set between 0 and 5 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 to -15 Celsius). Verify the refrigerator temperature is set between 34 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit (1 to 5 Celsius).

Bottom of fridge not cold

After adjusting the settings switch or dial (usually inside fridge) you wait a couple of hours then see if bottom is colder. Most fridges (older models anyway) have an adjustment procedure. This worked for our Magic Chef purchased about 1994

What would cause the airflow to stop to fridge when freezer door is closed? (kenmore model 106)

Ice in the path of air flow to fridge. The freezer also kkeps the fridge cold via a fan that blows the cold air from feezer to fridge.

Kenmore side by side fridge. Green temp light flashing for fridge side, freezer side working fine. Fridge side not cooling.

possibly frosted up at the air door between the fridge and freezer, or the fan in the freezer is not pushing cold air into the fridge side, if you can not hear a fan running in the freezer when the fridge is running (compressor on) then change out the fan

The refrigerator and freezer are not cooling the freezer reads 12 and the refrigerator is 42

I am a celcius man myself. So I assume you are talking about degrees fahrenheit?
Basically you are not getting the correct temperatures in the refrigerator or freezer. this could be due to
# Condenser fan not working (condenser is the outside of the fridge that gets hot)
# condenser blocked or dirty
# Poor air flow over the condenser
$ evaporator fan not working (this circulates cold air inside the fridge)
$ The ducting for the cold air is blocked
$ the themostat is faulty
& Compressor has burnt valves and cannot pump properly
* the fridge is loosing refrigerant

So my split fridge and freezer broke. the freezer works fine but the fridge doesnt get cold enough, even if i turn the knob to 7 (the highest).

first clean and remove dust and debris from under unit and make sure fan is working properly--next check the fan in freezer section for icing ,damage ,blockage ,or failure repair or replace as necessary the fan supplies the fridge with cold air from freezer

Side by side freezer works fine ice cold.fridge not so good. only at 57 degrees

Listen for the fan motor to run. Open the freezer\ push the door switch with your finger \ listen for the fan that blows the cold air to the fridge. only the freezer side gets cold...fan blows cold to the fridge side. If the defrost timer has broken then ice may be blocking the flow of cold air to the fridge also. Only 2 things to check. Good Luck
