This unit uses a DLP (digital light processor) chip and if this starts to fail then you will get spots appearing on the screen. The DLP chip will need to be replaced.

If it happened gradually I would suspect the lamp--a photo posted here might help.

White fog "ring" around outer third of screen. Dark spots and a single white pinhole in picture as well.

If the model above is correct you are describing a bad optical light engine, about the most expensive part inside that set.

InFocus X3 plastic lens

If you still have the owners manual there should be an 800 number or some sort of customer support for it. Unless it's really old that is your best bet for the internal pieces

We purchased a sony wega hd lcd projection tv. The set had a great picture until the lamp had to be replaced. The screen got progressively darker until the screen went completely dark. After the lamp...

It sounds to me like you got a fingerprint on the lamp when you installed it. The oils in your skin can cause all kinds of problems on a lamp that gets soo hot. I recommend replacing the lamp again and using a tissue or sterile glove to hadle the new bulb. Also, before replacing the lamp make sure to clean and vacuum out the light engine box and fan.

If the problem persists, then the LCD panels inside the light engine have been heat damaged. There is a class action lawsuit in New York that is trying to extend the light engine warrantee on Wega TVs. You should give Sony a call at 1-800-222-SONY for information and more assistance.

good luck!

Gray spots on screen on a JVC HDILA model HD 56G 787

The HD-ila sets accumulate a lot of dust in the light engine. The worst offender is the little fold mirror just under the lens. I take my set apart about every 8 months or so to clean all the dust from the light tunnel and all lenses, mirrors, diffusers etc. The picture really regains it's pop when this is done. Unless you are a skilled technician though, I would recommend against attemptimg this procedure as you need to disconnect the individual color lcds. Check with a local service center to get it properly cleaned.
