I have a Rear Projection Panasonic HDTV..The tv worked fine until today. I tried to turn on the T-V - my tv would not respond to my remote. I went over to the tv and turned on the power button. I heard a ''beep, beep, beep''..and the red light started blinking on the tv (power button). The only way I could turn the tv off, was to unplug it from the power surge protector. I have tried a second plug outlet with the same result. I unplugged everything attached to the TV and did a direct connect from the TV to the wall, same results as stated earlier. What could the problem be? The tv worked great (other than having a convergence issue awhile back (which was repaired). The Model # is: PT-47WXC43G The Serial # i s: MX32870012Manufactured in Mexico October 2003.When I turn the power button on, it appears the beep, beep, beep, beep, beep (seems like 5 beeps comes from the back of the TV). Then the red light on the front of the TV blinks 5 times, pause..blinks 5 times, pause......it will not stop unless I unplug the TV; the power button will not let me turn the TV off.Thank you very much.SandyDallas/Tx
Decoding the number of beeps may be possible with the owner's guide but this type of problem is normally due to a failed power supply.
These are often mounted on separate boards located in the bottom of your set and can be identified by the much larger parts you see on the board and possibly its relationship to the AC cord coming in.
While these can be repaired, the cost of that will approach the cost of a new assembly.
Unfortunately, modern, more energy-efficient power supplies have some critical components that if bought cheap, don't last very long and frankly, 5 years isn't bad, I read of many dead within the first year.
