How do I delete contacts from the directory. I have a dash 5

Sounds like you are deleting the links, not the empty directories.

Try the following:

press [directory] (the phonebook icon, top center)
scroll to the entry to be deleted
press [delete]
display reads "Delete Contact?"
press [select] to confirm
display reads "Deleting..."
display reads "Contact Deleted", (chirps)
display shows the next entry in the directory

In my phone it goes like this
1 open contacts
2 all contacts
3 find the name of the person
4 click on the name--open
5 click on edit in the upper right hand corner
6 scroll down to the bottom
7 click on Delete Contact

If you are using the latest version, v5, then try uninstalling and reinstalling the software. If you are using an older version then upgrade.

If using Vista this fix may also help:

1. Exit Skype on your PC

2. Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Skype\" directory

3. Delete your account (I deleted all my accounts)

4. Launch the Skype

5. Enjoy.

When you enter a number/letter, the "Mute" button serves as a backspace/delete function. So what I did was go to Menu>Directory>Review, scroll to the contact I wanted to delete, and press "Mute", which asks me to confirm to delete the contact. Hope this helps.

highlight the yahoo id which you need to delete, then click right pad of mouse and select delete. you will be prompted to also delete from the address book. Tick box if you want, other wise the contact remains in your address book but not in your ym directory list

Delete a Number/Name Stored in the Directory
1. Press . The screen displays DIRECTORY.
2. Press or to scroll alphabetically through entries stored in directory.

Press the dial pad key for the first letter of the entry you want to delete.
3. When the screen displays the entry you want to delete, press select . Then press or until

i would save myself the trouble and hard reset the phone. but first make sure you backup all your personal files like contacts/pictures/music/videos/and so on..
you re-set it by:
1.Select Start
2. Accessories
3. Clear Storage
4. Type 1234 in the box
5. Select YES.

sir, i thought your phone is in running off memory full...you should copy first your contact to sim directory before you format...this is the manual format : power on the phone then push the three botton 3+* and the green botton hold it with 5 to 10 seconds until formatting will appear on the screen..
