What machine is it. There are two dials tension and stitch length. Call company. But usually length is dial to far right. Tension is on the left.

SOURCE: Lengthening stitches.

You can adjust the length of the Zigzag (Satin)
Stitch using the buttonhole fine-adjusting screw. You will find it right above your stitch selection dial.

> For a longer stitch length, turn the
buttonhole fine-adjusting screw with a large
screwdriver in the + direction.
> For a shorter stitch length, turn the
buttonhole fine-adjusting screw with a large
screwdriver in the - direction.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: How do you lengthen stitch. The stitches are so

your machine should have a stitch length dial on the right hand side above the flywheel, it might have numbers from 0.5 to 3 or 4, higher number for longer stitch (effectively this moves the foot and feed dogs faster in relation to the needles to make the stitch longer).

If you have the Serge Pro SW432 that your enquiry is linked to and you have not used a serger before, then definitely get hold of the manual, you will need it. Sergers are very different to sewing machines - once you've mastered one, its easy, but there is a learning curve.

Firstly, ALWAYS extend the thread aerial up, you'll see loads of images of sergers sitting nicely with the aerial in the lowered position, great for moving them to avoid damage. But they won't work well, a serger seams at 1500 stitches per minute and the thread streams off the cones so you need to ensure there is a good clear feed via the aerial to the tension dials.

Buy good quality thread cones and keep it out of the sun and dust. Cover your machine when not in use (lower the aerial first). You could start with white, grey and black thread as this will cover a lot of fabric prints/colours etc. To change thread colour, you will need to cut and knot on the new thread for the two loopers (right hand side cones) - do this about 6 inches above the first thread guide, and then chain off to feed these through down to the needle plate, when you see the new colour come through okay, stop. Repeat the process for the needle thread or threads (3 or 4 thead depending on what stitch you are sewing) but stop chaining when the thread knot is above the needles. Stop, loosen these tension dials and pull the thread down, cut out the knot with scissors and thread the new colour through the two needles. Use threading wires if you have them, or tweezers. Pull both these and the two looper threads together under the pressure foot, lower the foot, turn your tension dials back to 5 and chain off. The thread sequence is important, mostly top looper, bottom looper, then needles, this is so much easier demonstrated than explained.

If you can find a classroom/shop offering overlocking user lessons, go take a couple, its well worth the money. Otherwise go to you-tube and watch all the videos you can search on sergers, threading, etc.

Good luck with your serger, please respond with 4 thumbs if this has been helpful to you. :-)

I have a baby lock Elizabeth. When quilting with the feed dogs down, the fabric gets caught and shortens the stitches real small. What can I do to fix this?

Are you using the "Quilting foot"?
Stitch setting on stitch #3 and lengthen the stitch a bit that should help tons.

How do I lengthen the stitch length?

Consult your owner's manual. On mechanical machines, there is usually a lever on the right side of the machine that slides from zero to 4. Zero will stitch in place, but the more you move the lever toward the #4, the longer the stitch will be. Usually, pushing the lever up above the zero will reverse the stitch.

On electronic machines, there is a setting on the screen for lengthening the stitch.

I have a white model 977 tried sewing straight stitch and the stitches are all bunched up tight. Tried adjusting tensions. First time using this machine. Could I of threaded it wrong? Or what?

Sounds like your stitch length is set too short. Lengthen the stitch length to at least 2 or higher. Also, check to make sure the feed dogs are not in the darning position. When darning, the feed dogs are dropped below the sewing surface so their action does not move the fabric. Unless the tension is very, very tight, it should not cause the stitches to be very close together.

You would probably benefit by having an owner's manual. Search the internet, input:

Manufacturer + Model + the word "Manual"

Settings for standard sewing stitch

I can't see what model machine this is, however in general terms a straight stitch is achieved by setting stitch length to 2.5 with stitch width of zero. If you are sewing a very heavy fabric, then lengthen the stitch length up to three. If you make the stitch length longer such as four, then the seam will pull up and gather the fabric.

The straight stitches can be shortened and lengthened utilizing the length selector. If you are attempting to do this with zigzag the stitch will be the same distance but the fabric will appear as if the material hardly moves. This will be changed by using a wide stitch. If you can't truly get a different stitch length on the straight stitch you may need the feed dog adjusted by a pro so that it will give you a longer stitch.

When I am sewing the needle moves up and down and so to the feeder feet but it will not pull the fabric through. I am not sure what to do...

Try lengthening your stitches on your stitch guide, it could be trying to stitch too tightly together & not stitching 'forward'....
